Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

aslong as i dont dump to much money into the blue jeep i should have enough money by end oof summer for tires and axles for the green jeep, now with it being a trail only rig should i still buy a spare? 39's are kinda spensive

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ok, so all kidding aside if anyone comes across a relativity cheap F250 D44, or '78-79 F250/F350 D60 let me know. Angel can be that person with the axle swap on a stocker XJ. I am DONE messing with frozen to the knuckle unit-bearings for the last time. Tearing Angel's D30 apart last night to put in some new Spicer 760s really reminded me about how much I dislike them. Had it been a D44 or D60 it would have been 1/4 the time to pull the shafts.
Seriously, no joke. Find something that isn't junk and let me know. I'll narrow it down to stock width.

What are you buying for tires? I didn't buy a spare, but I might snag a HUMVEE 37" for a spare to get me off the trail if one turns up local. It'll be a big difference in size from my 39" Pitbulls, but it'll get the job done if the super unfortunate event arises.

I can see it now...D60 front 8.25 Rear with 30" All Terrains at Fall Crawl on trail 2 or 3...BREAKING ROCKS WITH THE 60. You need high-steer if you do it though Bill...Negative angles FTW.

Haha! I don't think so, would she even be able to clear an acorn? :wierd:
The rear would have to change for bolt pattern reasons, but those are easy to find. She thought I was kidding last night when I mentioned it, but if I can find one cheap it's going in (after mine is done of course, I havn't worked on that since before NACFest :( ).

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

can we please NOT talk about D60's. even though the jeep is driveable and shouldnt need any more money into it for a little while, i should try and save some money. on the other hand, i keep finding good deals on 60 parts and i wanna start tearing into it. within the next couple of weeks hopefully, we are getting rid of the 40' container that had all the fire stuff in it. once thats gone, i may get a 20' jsut for myself and make it me own little shop. ill put my tools and a workbench in there, run a 220 and a 110 line out to it, a light and im ready to go.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I just called south shore bearing and they want at least $200 to lengthen a driveshaft. I had my front driveshaft of the honcho lengthened for $100 by rhode island drive shaft. They're just far away...

Really? I kind of loved that aspect of the D30.

After the first time taking everything apart, and anti-seizing it all back together, you could rip the entire thing apart in like 5 minutes. Granted the D44 isn't much harder, it probably takes me almost twice the amount of time to rip it apart than a D30.

Adam and I took the ring gear off my D30 and had it all back together and driving in like 45 minutes.

Oh, tonight when it all goes back together (had to stop last night to wait for paint to dry and the lack to replacement brake parts) there will be anti-seize applied. I'm willing to bet any amount of money that you could disassembly and pull the shafts on that D44 (or my D60) a whole heck of a lot faster than any D30, recently removed unit bearings or not.

Of course it is her DD and not anything that will see the trail so if I don't come across a great deal like I did before I'm not changing a thing with this '99.

I had my dana 44 apart in what seems like no time when I was even doing it the first time. My only hang up was having to buy the spindle nut socket. Not to mention I love that after you pound the knuckles off you can take them to a bench to install new ball joints. Which once they're out takes like 5 minutes per side(if you're awsome).

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

My rear driveshaft is dumb I WANT A NEW ONE!!!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

carmelo, i know it's probably a hike for you and therefore not worth it, but jon's shafts in manchester NH will lengthen and balance a DS for ~$60 or $70...

I'd disagree. Just taking off the 6 allen head bolts that cover the lockout dial itself is slow enough.

D30
- (2) Caliper bolts
- (1) Cotter Pin
- (1) Hub Assmbly Nut
- (3) Hub-to-Knuckle Bolts

Shaft is out.

D44
- (6) allen head bolts
- (1) Snap Ring
- (1) Retaining Ring
- (2) Spindle Nuts
- (1) Lock washer
- (2) Caliper bolts
- (6) Spindle nuts

Shaft is out.

Maybe I'm just slow with a D44, and I'm not saying it takes long at all, but I still think a D30 comes apart way faster.

x2 with what Colin said :)

My cousin lives in Ashland NH if they have a good reputation I might have him bring it there for me and bring it back.

We'll have to race at a later date. ;)
Oh, and get rid of the lockouts gets rid of a weak point and to of those allen bolts you somehow can't remove quickly. :laugh3:

On a different note, I'm looking for some 1-1.5" boomerang shackles and 1" poly spacers for the front now, just something to help clear those 30x9.5" a little better.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Me and a bunch of the kiddo's in DWE go there all the time no complaints. super fast turn around time, usually when i bring one i'll go mid week late morning, and he'll tell me to go to lunch and come back... hour later he's calling and saying come pick it up :)
