what y'all think? I'm leaning towards a bit overpriced but then again if it's clean and relatively low miles :dunno: I'm sure I could get at least a few years of driving out of it, so maybe worth the $$.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

way overpriced, and it's a 96. Who cares about mileage, they last forever unless they rust out... and 96s supposedly rust out worse and from the evidence I have I'll believe it...

Aim for a 95 or a 99 and buy it.

EDIT: also those rims are truly appetite destroying

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

It does have a rare 5 spd, That alone is worth 2/3 of the price.
Oh yeah :laugh3: If it were a 2 dr 5 speed I might give it the benefit of the doubt but idk...

Well my 93 rusted out quite well too. I was looking for a '95 but finding what I want is tough (Damn you Ross ). And those wheels would have been replaced with eccos sooner than later. Now I forget, what was the change for '99 that makes it more desireable than, say, a '97? (e.g. http://providence.craigslist.org/ctd/1923218977.html). And idc about having LPD30 up front so '00+ isn't a out of the question either, this would be staying stock so http://capecod.craigslist.org/ctd/1927327928.html is a bit more than I wanted to spend but could be worth looking into.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I bought my '92 with 150k on it and barely any rust (one spot on the passenger side floor) and all mint body panels for $1500.

That thing is way overpriced.

99 has better OBD II support, the newer intake manifold, and a few other things I forget.

97 vs 99 is not that big a deal if you are going for a manual IMO. 98 and up are harder to fool the TCU, but you don't need to worry about that on a manual.

Why are you looking at another XJ anyways? You have a DD I thought, and you said this one would stay stock...

I wouldn't trust that add. The address and all caps made me remember that I once drove down to that place to check out a cherokee. It was a blue '01 limited, in multiple places the add said the paint was amazing. I even called the place, and the guy said it was awesome.

I got there, and there wasn't one panel on that vehicle that didn't have scratches, rust, or horrible cover up paint on it. The front bumper wasn't straight, and it made me angry that I wasted that time and money to go there.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

oh yeah... put about a hundred miles on the new tranny in the 96

It shifts awesome, runs at about 190 degrees constantly now instead of the 210 (during the winter) and the 230-240 it was running when I went to Kyle's move-out party. I'm fairly certain my thermostat has been stuck open since sometime last fall and I never realized because the flaky old tranny was putting out so much heat it made the temp look normal. Of course, I put in a two row copper/brass radiator at the same time as the new tranny (seemed like a good time to do it with the radiator and whole drivetrain pulled!) so it could be that improving things as well.

Most likely not. That place is in the center of my town, I've been there a few times, and I've determined most of the stuff is over priced (they always have cherokees there) and a friend bought a Jeep from there a few years ago, turned out to be a real piece of crap.

They spray everything, and I mean everything, underneath the vehicle with black paint to cover anything up. It may look nice, but I'm sure that paint won't last long, and will be a pain when it comes time to work on stuff.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I wouldn't worry about years other than it being a 96. From what Ken says it sounds like they have a lot of parts that donot interchange with other years. And if your DDing it why does it matter if it has a LP30? You're not wheeling it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

The fuel pump assembly is about the only real gotcha electrically on a 96, the ECUs are different but they rarely die and are easy to find anyways. 97s have a few strange things with them electrically but usually you can just splice a couple wires and use either 96 or 98 parts on them.

:D let me remind you it was/is in mint shape with no rust and everything is original. did i mention it kicks ass and has euro lights?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

your just jealous you couldnt keep up on the highway :D

i look forward to no axle wrap very soon. and i look forward to driving it down to rocktoberfest.

I am looking at an XJ for a DD; I am still deciding what to buy for a new DD so I can sell the Altima and buy something to get rid of my loan. Part of me wants to get another XJ, the other part of me really wants to get another car of some sort since I do like the ride of a car from time to time and think I would miss off ramps if I was in an XJ all the time

And the '99 has the newer intake... didn't they add the intake because they had to restrict the exhaust.. aka it shouldn't matter either way? And wouldn't it actually be better to get one before the intake so I could swap a newer intake on for more power down the road? or did they restrict the exhaust in '97 and not boost the power back up with the intake until '99?

I wouldn't worry about years other than it being a 96. From what Ken says it sounds like they have a lot of parts that donot interchange with other years. And if your DDing it why does it matter if it has a LP30? You're not wheeling it.
I said it doesn't matter if it's a LP30 for that exact reason (unless of course i made a typo )

Edit: Nope, no typo. I said idc about having a LP30 as it will be a DD and stay stock.. so '00+ is not out of the question :)

Yeah I just re-read it and saw IDC I read it as IDK at first. I just forgot how to read at first, oops.:hang:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I would say something about the M54A2 but that sucker is in no way cheaper, it is just repair costs not upfront costs. I think I'm still under 4 grand all told but that won't last long.

call me nuts but I don't like Euro lights, they look like they should have fish floating in them.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I knew mine wasn't going to be cheap when I bought it.

Especially if I add a tuner or do any kind of performance mods.

Thankfully I have another money pit that keeps me from doing such things.
