THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Holy crap, morris 4x4 order arrived, perfect timing. Mark, I'm gonna be in Boston tonight for work, will be leaving the science museum around 10 to 1030, will bring the exhaust mount if you can meet me there(I'm carpooling.)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i'm rereading bill's thread from start to finish again. bad thoughts abrewin.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ken, I'll need one of those half moon things.
I know I'll get a comment for this but;
Mark & Ken, be one of the cool kids and just hard mount the exhaust.
Simple flex pipe up front and the rest can be rigid all the way back.

rear winch, and a 2002 75 horsepower Mercury outboard
Nice! What boat is the outboard going on?

I did that the other day when I made an index for myself so I can find stuff in my own thread. It is easy to get lost.:paperwork

Considered it... this is my daily driver though. For 3 bucks, I decided to just go with OEM simplicity - the downpipe is surprisingly rust free, so I'm going to just pop the new isolator in, throw the muffler/tailpipe on it, and call it a day. If I decide to be motivated I might install a flex joint in the downpipe to keep my header from cracking (more.)

Hard mounted exhausts are the way to go. even i had a ghetto hard mounted exhaust before. When my jeep lives again, I'll be doing what you and Chris (vetteboy) did.

Yeah, I'm reading it specifically for ideas on the chop/cage/coil overs. I'll be calling you and picking your brain about things you wish you did differently at some point...

x2 i like how ashman has his idexed with links on PBB on the first page.

Ross - did you end up selling both axles?

 yuppers!!! i now have more room and less stuff kicking around.

I see no reason why being a DD matters.
However if that's all you need $3 is the better choice.

Yup, I stole the idea from him. It worked out great.

Keep the body together, keep leaf springs, keep the cage simple... if you want to wheel in the next 3 years.

Maybe I'll get someone to edit my 1st post and add the index.
answer for new exhaust = ZOOMIES!!!
Yup, 'cause the 4.0L just makes loads of low end torque with no backpressure.

Yeah - plus the MJ exhaust hangars toward the back are like a foot and a half long including the part welded to the tailpipe, I'd rather not mess with it. I always figured hard mounting it would result in more transmitted vibration even with a flex joint installed :dunno:

I'm really hoping I don't need to replace the cat, I've been hearing some ultra loud clunking and rattling that I am hoping is part of the exhaust pipe / crossmember problem. Gonna take a peek into the cat when I have the muffler off, if I need one it looks like it'll cost me another hundred bucks or so if I want it to come with the proper 4-bolt flange, or 50 bucks if I feel like finding/making one and welding it on myself.

X2 get the axles under it and get a cage in it, wheel the new setup and STFU

spring-loaded flappers on each pipe will work to add backpressure :gee:

hell, you dont even need the cage to get wheeling. mine may or may not have a cage, or a complete cage, when i start wheeling it again.

1. Rust. Lots of rust.
2. Doubler = torque. leaf springs don't like torque
3. Define "Simple" :scottm:
4. I'm budgetting 2 yrs time.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

"Keep the body together" kinda requires a hell of a lot of work on rusty rigs like his and mine...

that's why the 96 is officially a beater rig and I no longer care if it lives or dies. I might redo the rear wheel wells with 16ga sheet as practice for the 98, and will probably cut and fold the rear quarters, but other than that, what it has now is what it's wheeling with.

1.sheet metal, lots of new sheetmetal(or just start with new shell)
2.traction bar, traction bars kill axle wrap
3. just do yur floors and get the 3 link done
4.budget, sell the vdub and buy somthin cheaper

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

either find a nice shell to build on or just start over with a juggy. just keep the firewall and drivetrain and add alot of tube
