Team NAXJA/Petty Cash Racing stock class KOH XJ build

So in our last installment, we'd cut the messed up rear quarter armour off the passenger side.

Dallas took to fixing it this weekend.

First pounded it flat to get an idea what we're working with.

Took some measurements and cut out a replacement.

Pretty close, considering he used a tape measure and drew it in solidworks.

A little mockup and some welding.

Then mockup the missing chunk of bumper and weld it back in.

In pulling the rear springs for rebuild, we found two problems.

First and foremost, after a few years of abuse the sleeve in the bushing was pounding into the spring mount, making it very hard to remove.

And the spring mount was starting to tear off of the jeep, taking some floor with it.

We started cutting that stuff out, and realized that somehow we missed about 15" of frame when we did our plating.

Dallas designed up a new plate and cut it out.

Drill a through hole for the leaf bolt

Make up some new inner spring mounts. The design allows for a removable nut, and is just big enough to let you get a full swing of a wrench when tightening it.

Add an outer plate, tied into the floor and rock rails.

Add a gusset at the bottom, that also serves as a ramp when we plow rocks.

The whole thing turned out pretty nice.

Spent a lot of time on other tasks that aren't completed yet, but once they are ill post up the photos.

Nice work. Did you look at the synergy brackets?

We looked but it would be as much work to modify those to work on our car as it would be to build new ones from scratch, and save $200.

This chassis is getting to be too far from stock (read: strait) for production parts to work.. ;)

Looking at them now they look like a really nice piece, but they wouldn't have worked for us without either hacking the shit out of them, or hacking the shit out of the existing rock rails and frame stiffeners. Either way a lot more work. Also we never could have gotten them shipped to us with the holidays in the time it took to just make these.

If we were doing a new build I would say they look like a very nice option though.

The poly brackets work and work well. They did a great job. They are not fun to install and are rather time consuming.

Is SFR going to offer those new frame plates?

Unicorns optional?

:loveu:

Nice work.

Better be prepared to fend off the Squatty Potty lawyers.

:phone:

And how is it that neither my SFR track bar mounts nor my handi-talkie mount came with any unicorns?

:rattle:

Well, to be totally truthful we generally save the unicorns for those who don't pay, or get deep discounts.

Cal is gonna get a lot of unicorns....lol

It is just no fun being one of the responsible ones.

I had to build similar mounts for the shackle end on my jeep, but somehow the originals are still holding up in the front of the leaf spring (no clue how they aren't broken yet). No unicorns on mine though

Lots of work going on today. I'm not exactly sure what got done, but I'm sure something. I know I spent a lot of time at the CNC table, the lathe and the mill. Mainly making things that nobody will ever see, and things that will be in the trash tomorrow after serving their purpose today. Hopefully Cal took notes and pictures, cause I didn't.
