Transmission mounts have been a problem for us, getting replaced every 3 or so times the car goes out because they start breaking up.
I was talking to Dallas at SFR about this, so he went and bought a trans mount and built up a couple of prototype replacements. The first went on a DD stocker XJ close to him and fit no problem, and really didnt add any vibrations, so he knocked one up for 4643.
For a prototype, the quality is very nice.
I got a break in my schedule today, so went out and dropped the cross-member on 4643 and pulled our trans mount off. Always some work, as it mounts to the Full Traction UCA mounts as well as the frame, and this chassis is less than strait.
You can see how much the stock mount has crushed down with only a couple of runs on it.
...and here we run into a problem.
Its funny how you can replace every part on a car a dozen times, know exactly what bolts are in what hole and how many miles since they were replaced..
..And not know something very basic, like that you have the wrong transmission cross-member for your car. I have replaced the transmission mount 10 or so times, and magically gotten the correct wrong part every time, too.
After research, I either have a 2000+ cross-member or one from a 4 cyl XJ? Not really sure, but I use a centered style trans mount and don't have the holes for what appears to be the more standard offset style.
SFR's existing setup is to replace part 2625, which is 84-99 6 cylinder XJ's (manual and auto). You'd think that would cover most of us..
...WHOOPS.
I was all set to go source another cross-member and get to fabbing, but Dallas would rather make a part that fits, so he's ordering up other variations of the XJ trans mount and adjusting his product line to include the other XJ configurations. Far be it from me to do a bunch of extra work when someone else is willing to do it instead..
