Now to grab a drill and a flat tip bit on a 3 foot extension and prime the system

I wanted to check for leaks, and also to fill the cooler/filter before actually firing the motor. The filter btw is for a big block chevy, way more surface area than the jeep one.

Everything was looking good, but the oil filter adapter kit came with too short of an adapter. Probably good for the original application, but not for the 4.0's funky oil filter port. OEM is 1", I ended up buying a 1.5". Trans Dapt part 1034.

Slide things apart. Screw the old one out. Screw the longer one in with a little loctite. I got really oily on this step and stopped taking photos.

You can just see the cut off roll pin.

All in all I'm pretty happy with the way it came out. The system holds just under 8 quarts of oil. We stepped down from 10w40 to 10w30, running VR1.
I'm surprised how much faster the oil cooler gets hot than the radiator does. I used some adel clamps to properly secure the lines after routing them, but never took any photos.

Now mechanically the car is all back together. This weekend its on to finishing body work.

Telescoping poles that mount to the roof to hold the vehicle off the ground in the event of a rollover?

I'm not, that place tore our car up pretty bad.

The car is better set up for the ARC course now, less altitude, a functioning trans.....and a driver without his finger in a splint.

For some added insurance, I'm going to hose you and Richard down with this before each heat:

Had a little free time after work, so using available ports on the new oil filter adapter, added idiot lights for oil pressure and oil temp.

Partially to put lights in front of the driver, as the gauges are setup for the passenger to watch, and partially because we've twice now lost coolant due to assorted leaks and had our engine get warm without the gauge indicating it.


Right now the sending units are at 253* and 30 psi. May have to change those up, but gives us a starting point.

It was most very needed. The 1" adapter only had 3-4 threads engaged at each end.. enough for mock up but I'd never drive on it that way.

Thanks for the reply the oil cooler remote filter looks like a nice setup. I've been using a filter adapter with lines coming off that but I don't like its setup or layout. Yours looks much more well setup and heavy duty.

An interesting race this weekend at Glen Helen to be sure!

First couple of practice laps we took it easy to break in the new motor and feel the car out, as we havent been in it for almost six months. Once we got into a groove started to open her up and she was doing *GREAT*

During the harder parts of the course, the engine was getting a little warm, but would cool back down again when we got into the straits.. so clearly a fan clutch problem. I'm making a note about that in my head and *BANG*.

We got hit by another car, one of the Bomber rigs. Nailed us on the front right corner. Steering got a little wierd and the car was tracking wrong. Someone yelled that we had a broken tie rod. No problem, there's a spare in my truck..

Drifted off the side of the course; I climbed out to check it out, stepped down onto the front tire and then to the ground. It took a minute for that bit to sink in..
