Well I don't need any tickets. vehicle is hiway capable, no windshield, and a few smog pieces are awol. Can't justify liscencing (spel chek) and insuring it, just to drive it 37 mi. a year. Thanks for the replies guys.
I took my buggy on this trip the last two years, so you can do it in a non-street legal vehicle. Others have driven seriously cut down rigs also. You won't see any cops up there, just maybe a ranger. If you don't want to risk the short section of highway, there are a couple ways to do it. You can drive in and out from the south side and avoid any highway travel, or you can leave the rig before the highway and have one of the other guys drive you back the couple miles to get your trailer. Or, you can get in the middle of the big line of rigs for that few miles and not worry about it, that's been done before too. No ranger is going to bother checking to see if you're registered unless he sees you stopped on the side of the road in a non-legal looking vehicle (ask Capt Ron), you'd be pretty safe (from a ticket) if you are in a caravan of Jeeps.
