Subforum for electronics- GPS, car PCs, CBs, audio, etc?

I tend to think it's not needed. Stock electronics questions go in OEM, stuff like lights/relays/compressor wiring/whatever else goes in mod tech (or advanced tech, maybe, depending on how "out there" it is? Soldering iron burns hurt just as much as flux burns!) - I do both for fun, and once in a while if it's hardware-related I don't mind a computer help thread in offtopic. I hate windows questions though, can't stand windows and haven't used it except at work for years so I'm getting a little rusty.

However, if it became a "computer help" tech support subforum, I'd stay the heck away from it. I hate reading that stuff, even when I'm the one that needs help. :speepin: So far as I see it, that's what Google is for. There are tons of sites out there dedicated to computer tech questions.

I agree there. It needs to be Automotive related instead of a "WTF is wrong with my computer" subforum.

my opinion is that once you start a sub forum for electronics, then everything would have to follow suit. One for "Exterior / body", "Suspension", "Drivetrain" etc. I been down that road before. I definitely like creating taxonomy but it does increase the clutter of choices and it doesnt end. K.I.S.S.

Well then why do we have a JS subforum? All that information could be placed into modified tech , performance, and a few other places.

The point was to make the information easier to find. Which is what an electronics sub forum would do.

I vote we combine 13mm fasteners and 1/2" fasteners

x3 on this idea. Half the threads in the non-tech forum are about electronics.

That's what non-tech is for. Aftermarket sound usually goes into the street forum.

I would be against adding electronics (especially non jeep related)

I was thinking that there was some value in putting all of the relevant info into one area (setting up CBs, decent mounts, dealing with the broken speaker wires, the sub/baffle threads, proper wiring, etc)- but seeing as most of the info is already on the forums somewhere, and people still won't look for it, there's really not much point in a subforum. How many driver's door speaker or XJ Pod threads are there? If they won't search, they won't read either. Screw it.
