Jim Marlar aka "CrazyJim"

FINALLY!!! A pertinent question! Of course I do, who else hides all those eggs for me to go find in the weeee hours of the morning with my bunny shoes on?!?!

Then if follows you must also believe in:

Santa Claus
chupacabra
Alfred E. Neuman
Jonny Quest

If so you have my vote too.

Jim.. how will you do this:
:
"the "leadership" needs to try to schedule some of these so people know they can get some face time with them and give/get feedback in general"

I'm relatively new here at NAXJA... So without opening a can of worms... why have people not been renewing their red letter memberships? Fill me in, I'm out of the loop.

I want to have a little background before forming an opinion and voting.
I think for some it was because they didn't appreciate having their mudslinging and bickering moderated out of the main forum. For others, they felt like the leadership was not ,......well.......leading.

What do you intend on doing about the "overlooked" safety requirements for official NAXJA runs? For every official trail run I've been on, no one has inspected any vehicle to make sure they met NAXJA's minimum safety requirements.

Do you feel that those safety requirements should be over looked??

Well regardless of what leadership enforces or causes time delays for, the requirements for NAXJA runs are posted for all to see. IMHO, it is YOUR responsibility to make sure you are equipped with proper equipment, and if anyone is in doubt of what is required, all they need do is ask and someone will promptly supply them with a link to the info.

It takes long enough as is to organize NAXJA runs with 30+ rigs, much less making a visual inspection of each and every rig.

And I might add, if you were happened to be lacking something, i.e., fire extinquisher....I'm gonna put yer Jeep out, not sit there and say, "Man, what ya really need is one of these things here!" =)

Sorry if it's a repost, but hot diggity this thread grew fast!

This question/topic was directed at the candidates. I was not asking for advice.

Heh, well, point was proven anyway with 3 links and a list. =)

But I might add that I do believe it important that the candidate also see an opposing concern. I know I would be far less likely to come on group runs if it were done all militant like. It's hard enough to sit around for 2 hours to go on a 4 hour run that should take 45 minutes, but then you add individual vehicle checks for all aspects of required equipment and frankly, it's just not worth showing up at that point. You really are better off just going out with a few friends and saying 'Adios' to NAXJA. Taking 8 hours to run a trail that should be done in an hour just inhibits on drinking time at the BBQ. =)

Just to clear things up. This was 2008. I was in my daily driver on a stock suspension and was encourage by "non BOD members" that I would be able to complete the Gold Mountain run. There was also a "easy run that included Jacoby Canyon that year. Within the first mile, I whacked the rear diff on a small rock and being that it was my first run and my daily driver I was encouraged to turn around by Rabbit. He was very courteous about it and even let me borrow a map of the area and pointed us in the direction of some trails we could manage as a stocker. Yes, there is plenty of trails stockers can run and have good scenic fun. There was also a 2WD Xj on 31's I believe, maybe 33's that was also encouraged to turn around and the two of us ran all over the fire roads in Big Bear and had a great time. We then returned to camp for the BBQ and raffle and continued the good times.

In the defense of Robert and Remi I have been to runs and events where both were present since becoming involved with NAXJA in the spring of 2008. That being said, I have also been to events, rock crawling and go fast and have met people from NAXJA, mostly old timers, that have been less than friendly with the new guy in the stocker, so yes that does happen and I wish you the best of luck changing it but believe that is just human nature.

This doesnt clear up anything, since the discussion was about naxja member (or user, maybe) 'maz', as has been stated several times. :)

I believe we should have regular tech inspections at all runs, although people who fall short instead of being sent home should be directed to a run appropriate their build and gear, and given suggestions on how to improve their inventory.

Wait! If they fail the safety inspection (Not having some or all of the required gear), what type of official NAXJA run would you consider appropriate?

Actually it does clear up the fact that the "easy" run was not Gold Mountain, it was Jacoby Canyon.

Your second post and all of this bickering and snivelling over things that happened a year and a half ago also clears up why some of us, or at least just me, have not renewed our memberships.

Rabbit. I said that. Stockers were sent on the easy run, which was gold moutain, where Rabbit turned them back.

Not the event leader, but the designated run leader, where clearly the event leader needed to have done a better job.

OK so I'm a newbie and didn't even realize 'elections' were going on...:helpme:
First I'd like to thank those of you (especially noting Jeeperjohn) who have reached out with open arms to welcome a newbie. So far I feel very welcome and maybe some of you were coming on to me...or my girlfriend (but that's another matter haha). I'll get to more of my crap after this:

Did someone volunteer to lead a run to the sand dune? Show of hands?
somehow I got there at the Rockin' XJ Jambo...I followed Carol on the stocker run (even though I'm not stock) and had the best time. It was an orientation! That night, Cal was leading a random group that was leaving camp for 'who knows where' but we decided to high tail it and follow. Out of nowhere, he looped around and came up next to us and OFFERED to have us join him and some others on a night run. It was unexpected and we followed. My gf got a ride up and down the trail and I walked up and got a ride down. Everything was open to whichever rig had a seat...it was awesome. As a newbie I couldn't have had more fun even if I DID have to park and walk.

*RAISES HAND*

I lead a group out there! See the above for story. We had a great time and I even got to the top of the dune that night.

Cal, again...the only chapter BOD person there was me and I did NOT deny any stockers. I still want to know who said that....I've probably misunderstood that this was at Rockin' XJ Jambo '09 - but we had a fun stocker run?

Equipment List
Visibly charged fire extinguisher (BC or ABC)
First aid kit
Adequate spare tire, jack and lug wrench
Safety belts for driver and any current passenger
Adequate attachment points in the front and rear of the vehicle:
Acceptable forms of attachment points: (All Items must be mounted in a manner to provide adequate strength and integrity)
Tow hooks of OEM or greater integrity
D-Rings
Shackle/Clevis
20ft 10,000lb snatch strap without any metal hooks
Secured battery (no bungee cords)

From the national bylaws that SoCal adopted upon our creation.
I was clearly aware from reading the threads on trails on what was required on my rig and what I could finagle. Ex: I didn't have a snatch strap...it was pretty obvious that someone would have one though!

I have said it before and I'll say it again. I am glad to not be red and have to vote this time around. I like all three candidates and any of the three can and will do a great job. I have reasons in my head why I think each of them should win. Can we have three presidents? French Socialist...I can only say that because I'm half French fried.

I agree with this. If you are putting an event together then you should be willing to do what it takes to make sure all who show have an organized run to go on. If you have to hit the gnarley trails do it when someone else is coordinating. The point is that if you agree to put an event together then it is your responsibility to make sure all are included. great quote. I felt very included at the last event as newbie. I know I'm stirring the pot a bit and PLEASE NOTE THAT I AM NOT TAKING SIDES! I've only met a few people, but so far had a great time...even if nobody wanted to cuddle afterwards.:speepin:

I just wanna say that alcohol on the trail is a complete waste and every effort should be made to ensure no alcohol is spilled on the trail! :D got it covered :conceited

I have attended the last 3 SoCalFests, and have never been disappointed. The raffle is always good, the food is always good, and the campfire time is always fun. Then again, that's all I really expect out of a good run. Wheeling, food, beer, camping, wheeling again. I can't see how it's fallen short. We had a great time. The event was a blast...

As for more organized events, that would be super cool! But, frankly, there are enough `side runs` for my transfer case to be in low-range most of the year, and in my experience, NAXJA folks are always ready to run! it seems that once you get to know people, that there are a lot of runs happening 'off the board' that you just need to know about. Naturally I'm sure the guy who said, "I'm heading to Big Bear on Sunday!" didn't mean to have 20 Jeeps following him/her...

Are there chumps in the club? Oh, you better believe it! Do we all know who they are? Yes. Yes, we do. Are they any of the folks running for a position? Not in my opinion. Although, some are steadily climbing the ladder to full-blown chump quickly in my book. ooo ooo me me!

In short, I realize that I'm just a member, and really have no say either way, but I would sure like to see some more camaraderie here. Remember, we are all here because we like OFF-ROAD activities, camping, trail clean-ups, etc. It really serves our cause well if we can put the bickering aside and band together. You know, the whole together we stand, divided we fall bit.

Let's show 'em what NAXJA is made of, gang! :) What's NAXJA again?:firedevil

I was promptly informed on what I needed because I simply ASKED if I could do a trail after describing my heep.

It takes long enough as is to organize NAXJA runs with 30+ rigs, much less making a visual inspection of each and every rig. I slept late every morning...I'm sure somebody opened my Jeep up and inspected since the keys were in it too...please forget that comment for the next even because I want no joyriders!

And I might add, if you were happened to be lacking something, i.e., fire extinquisher....I'm gonna put yer Jeep out, not sit there and say, "Man, what ya really need is one of these things here!" =) good thing I'm not being elected because I try to let people make their mistakes and then step in at the last moment.

Sorry if it's a repost, but hot diggity this thread grew fast!

Anyways - now for my rambling. As a newbie, I am not briefed on the politics of the 'chapters' and 'ruling bodies' of naxja. I'd also like to point out that I use the search function most of the time to find what I need. I didn't join and pay membership for any other reason than that I felt that I have gleaned so much information and saved so much money on repair bills and such that I owed it to the people who have posted such good information to pay for membership.
I got a sticker...that's pretty cool. It's on my heep and as a newbie I like it.
From a newbie perspective, I've found nothing but willing people as I venture between the Jeepspeed, Adventure, and other subgroups on the board.
So I just thought I'd throw that into the pot. Being completely ill informed as the average voter in American elections, how will someone sway my vote (how do I vote anyways?)

Well said, Garrett (HeepSpeed). You're the kind of "newbie" that's easy to bring up to speed.

Voting? http://www.naxja.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=106. You can vote for SoCal folks and the BOD folks.

Read their statements. Folks you met at GoatFest (which is different from the SoCal Fest they were talking about, which is in Big Bear in the Spring)were:
You met 2 of 3 SoCal prez candidates:
Josh (DJBlade311), who ran the raffle and knew the shade of blue his rig was.
Brendan (Brendan_91XJ), who was distributing raffle prizes and drives a white XJ.

You met one of the National At-Large BOD Candidates that I know of:
Stephan (Karstic), who provided the "In-flight entertainment" flop on our run.

I don't think there's a bad candidate in the lot, so just vote what you feel!

Carol

And since this is Jims thread I feel it should be said that Jim (the 3rd of 3 candidates) wasn't there. I don't know why but maybe because his jeep is completely torn down right now getting new front axle, coilovers, rear bypass shocks, roll cage, engine cage and a few other odds and ends.

One of his jeeps. :)

Although I don't fault him for not driving the stock 2wd MJ out either.

I know... I've only met Jim once, but he seems like a really good guy too. And pshht...he coulda driven the MJ out... Grimm did last year!! But yes, Jim has a lot of work on his plate right now, and he was probably wise not to come.

I in no way meant to slight Jim; Garrett just didn't get to meet him in person yet. Just like I know at least one of the national BOD nominees quite well, but Garrett didn't meet him since he couldn't be at GoatFest for once.

I just want to give everyone a heads up. I'm no longer answering questions here and will not be back into this thread, since it's now turned into a playground for people who don't know me to slam me and pitch for other candidates.

How much wood could a wood chuck chuck if the wood chuck drove an MJ?
