Yes, we have all seen the "Photos of your Cargo Area" thread, but that was mainly composed of people buying a big Rubbermade and throwing junk inside of it.

Nothing wrong with that, Ive done it a time or two myself, but Im looking for those cool little ideas people have come up with for storing everything from axle shafts to spare tires, to tool bags and everything else you can think of.

As of right now my packing consists of throwing everything in the Jeep and putting a couple ratchet straps over it all, but that scares the heck out of me, and is not organized at all to say the least.

Give me pictures, ideas, thoughts, etc! :D

Some cool ideas I have found:

While most of us dont have full floating shafts, cool idea to store them in the bumper. You can make out the flanges barely in the second picture

Use old Ujoint straps as ratchet points

Now its your turn

A Hi-lift fits nicely when lied down across the far rear of the trunk. Slide the handle up until it's taught and won't wiggle around.

I like keeping a 3-cell Maglight (and water too) in the crevice to the bottom left of the drivers seat but since it's not really a pocket but unused floor space there's nothing to prevent stuff from rolling forward...under pedals. I'm thinking about getting a piece of wood and fitting it to that area.

Ideas?

Get the mag light clips and either bolt them through the floor, put it on the door, or center console.

Water, put it in a cup holder (why did Jeep think cup holders were optional to have?) or throw it in the back.

How are you guys holding your axle shafts?

i cut the plastics open and use the quarter panels for storage for my spare sleeping bag, blanket, hatchet, hammer, rope on one side and tire iron, comealong, and sludgehammer and chain on the driver side.

S-10 Blazer tie downs to replace the XJ tie downs. The XJ tie downs are just riveted in and can be pullled out by about 10 lbs of stuff. Carefully drill through the cargo floor and bolt in the S-10 tie down. I have 3 per side and the tool box and all the Rubber-Made storage boxes get secured with ratchet straps to the S-10 tie downs.

I bought some stouter tie-downs from Jegs.

You can see them in this photo:

Yeah I use those all over my cargo area. I also welded some nuts to the rear seat back and use those tie-downs to hold a small cargo net

Working on something similar for the hatch but need to design something that will hold the hatch up when it's weighed down

Good idea with the Velcro, I did mine up like this, got an old packing crate off my neighbor, added hinges and clasps also tie down rings on the sides

First Gen. was using straps to hold it in the rear.

That blew cuz I couldn't open it without pullin the straps, so second Gen. and how it rides now is with turnbuckles holdin it down to beefed up anchor's in the floor.

Got Hilift and Spare Front Driveshaft, and Front Axle Shafts stored under the hilift just laying back there

Gotta figure out a way to mount the axle shafts to the box, and how to mount my chainsaw to the top of the box with quick releases, she is a work in progress.

I ended up making a couple of those fire extinguisher mounts for myself as well as a couple for friends and my dad. For about $15 in hardware for six of them, they were far cheaper than anything I could have bought, and were actually kind of fun to make.

Things I learned:
Plasmas are an awesome tool, especially for cutting out 18 pieces that make up the 6 mounts I made.
Two ply plywood work great as templet, at least for the first two times they are used with the plasma. After that, they end up catching on fire.
Drill presses are 10x easier to use than a handheld drill.

And pics:
Halfway done

Done

Please excuse the shitty fire extinguisher thats empty. It will be replaced at some point.
