Walked out today to move the old jeep to the front of the Apt. building the good parking spots and what did I find, broken vent window and no radio. Got to love punks. At least I still have my cb, ARB compressor and tool box and CDs that were in the center console and my sunglasses. They didn't cut the wires just pulled it out real nice. Thanks ***holes. So now I have to get a vent window and a new radio. Forget insurance, forget the cops. The cops said it's a cold day in hell before they ever find a radio so he didn't want to blow any smoke up my butt. Thanks that makes me feel real good. Thought I would share. I did put on a club today, one by Masterlock that holds the spokes of the steering wheel. The cop said it wouldn't be a bad idea. Doesn't save the radio but saves the Jeep which is a lot cheaper to replace. People really piss me off sometimes. Juice

3 weeks ago they smashed my side window pulled out the stereo with my screwdriver grabed the remote control and left about 25 hundred dollars worth of tools i had in the back . still need to retint the side glass

you sound like me. I found one this afternoon that is a fixed vent window for $30 bucks a you pull it. So at least that is done. Now for a cheap CD player. Juice

Been there, done that. I feel for you, bro. It makes you feel sick inside and angry as he## all at the same time.

If you don't need the greatest radio in the universe, Crutchfield sells a nice basic am/fm/CD head by Panasonic for just over 100 clams. I put one in the Montana-mobile last year and I was surprised how good the sound was, especially through 14 year old factory speakers. It's nothing fancy, but it makes noises while you drive.

sounds like the front-end of my trail rig......

everytime i leave my rig parked i always wonder what they will take.. i dont have working locks..... been lucky so far but its bound to happen... but if they take my radio it will be a real POS that only plays CDs when its darn good and ready.... i wont replace it just for those reasons though.... and like everyone else i'm more concerned with the tools in the back and the hi-lift..

Man that sucks,

I still remember the sick feeling in my gut that I had when I came out of my house to find some pr##k pulled the new alpine radio out of my MGB. I had religously taken the face plate off for over a month after I put in the radio. The second time I forgot to pull the face-plate and the radio was gone. They stole a mountain bike out of my back yard as well. Strange this happened the day after the roofing crew finished working. they had gotten to know our German Sheppard, and she didn't give off any alarm when the items were stolen. the police said it wasn't worth persuing, as the stereo was probably already sold/traded for drugs.

the a##hole came back a few weeks later and found nothing but the hole he left previously. Instead of leaving it at that, he ripped out the center console and squirted my wifes hand lotion all over the interior and in the vents. the officers who came out said they thought they knew who it was, but could get no real proof.

people like this should be shot!, or at least used as bumpers to protect trees along Jeep trails.

some years ago came home from working late. about 3 am some jack a@@ breaking into our van, chased the sob across the yard with the car I was driving, he jumped the fence and I backed out the driveway chased him down the street, luckily he jumped into a large wet ditch and into the woods. was not a nice place to live but never had problems again. guess word got out.

Eagle,
Thanks for the tip on the radio, just looked at them. They ripped the power cable out of mine as well so I would guess it doesn't work. Good I'm glad, a##holes. But now that I have a vent window and some ideas for a new radio, time to move it to the garage. Juice

Well be lucky they just went into your car. My friends live at rutgers university in new brunswick, NJ. The other night, a few guys broke in the window while they were sleeping (they happened to forget to lock it). They came in, went into each of their individual rooms with them sleeping, went in their wallets, took all the money, credit, and debit cards they could get, plus a laptop.

They spent almost $1k on the cards by time everyone woke up and noticed what had happened. So it was a good $2k+ steal. Plus the freakedoutness that people were in your house while you were sleeping. I'm kinda glad none of them woke up since there have been a few armed robberies in the past few months in that area, and the armings were used a few times as well. I have no idea what would've happened if they did wake up.

still sucks about the radio, but felt I should share this. _nicko_

I had problems getting a Pioneer to fit the dash, which is why I went to the Panasonic. I did finally get the Pioneer into my MJ, but despite the fact that the Pioneer cost more than twice as much as the Panasonic, I think the Panasonic sounds just as good and the controls just feel more like quality.

Locks? We don't need no steenkin' locks.

Try a Google on "Auto Taser"

I like that auto taser, wonder if you can disable the audible alarm :D mount it right and you can cover the radio area. Maybe plumb it into the vehicles red top too for some extra amps ?? :D :D

Hi. I am new to this. Sorry to hear about your misfortune with the radio. I would hunt the salvage yards for a side vent window and also go to http://www.chryslerpartsdirect.com/ for the side vent window's seal. Finally, I know you already probably took care of what you had to do, but, Alpine has a decent radio for about 179 with a detachable face. However, you do have to buy the harness (15-20 bucks and the filler item) and stuff.

By the way, I do find lots of parts for the XJ family at my somewhat local salavage yard, just dont wear gym shoes or white :). I just take off what I am able to do and clean it up. I just bought the front items off of an 94 XJ (Black Grille, bumper end caps, head lamp surround, side markers. I went back for the front panel but it was already crushed so I took the interriror's center cousol. Best of hunting.

As far as the non working locks. Are they electrical? If so go to your local junk yard and take what you need. If you do not know how to put it on usually a Jeep Dealership will do it for you (at labor of course). I do this once in while for new parts that I just cannot do. For example, I had to put on a NEW splash shield. Took the tire off installed the part, tried to put on the front seal, HA! it would have nothing with it, and I dropped it on my eye (yeh, need to wear safety goggles). Anway, check out your local yards.

Well I got a used 96' fixed vent window. Wanted to replace with them anyway. Still no radio but I'm thinking now that it's not a dd, I might just wait on that anyway. But it gave me some more time to fix the window seals that needed it and the driver side lock is still f###ed up but oh well. Thanks for all the radio ideas. Juice

Sombody ought to make one of those tasers in the shape of an indash bling bling radio with a fake steel CD or cassette tape sticking out.

i agree with that, except that you know that life sucks when you can get sued by the thief for shocking them...there used to be these seat shockers that would go on the seat and if the alarm was set off, then the seat was sat on, the person would get one hell of a shock... now you can be sued by the thief for shocking them...also those piezo's had to be regulated, because they can sue you if you cause damage to their ear drums while they were breaking into your vehicle to steal your stuff....WTF????
