so ive been to boards crossing trail before , its through the back of a campsite on boards crossing road outside of dorrington.
what about sour grass trail?
are these the same trail renamed? or two different trails in the same area?

They are the same trail.

Sourgrass is the state park name, it is located on Boards Crossing Road. Was just up there last weekend.

yep, same trail.

cool
thought so, but i was like, damn, are there two trails that look very similiar in the same area?
i called the ranger today, said it was open

Sour Grass is my clubs (Gettin' Off 4x4) adopt a trail. We were there two weeks ago do a little clean up and cutting up of fallen trees. The water in the creek is about 8' deep and the big meadow area near the end was kind of muddy, but the very end of the trail is fine. Some of our group camped out. Cold at night but no mosquitos.

XJKCali - thanks to you and your club for keeping it nice up there. I was with the group of ~10 vehicles that was camping in the back when you guys were doing the cleanup weekend. We go out there at least twice a year.

last time i was there i found someones "shooting range" that consisted of a ton of glass bottles. i wasnt happy to see it there thats for sure, i am all about pack in, pack out, and try to grab as much of the crap other people leave behind too.
the creek is 8ft deep at the crossing?
the weirdo said 20"...
anyway, one more question, i know last time we went, we went over the creek and to the left, but it seemed like the trail went right up a hill? wasnt sure though, didnt want to be starting something new and pissing off the rangers, there was a giant log on the uphill part... does that sound right?
or does it just dead in that big spot where you make a left, and a U turn into and go downhill a bit?

Yeah, there a lot of people that don't clean up their brass out there. We usually end up with tons of the stuff to haul out.

The small creek that you cross is 20". The deep river that you camp next to is 8' deep.

Once you cross the 20" deep creek you can go left or go right. We go right. The trail to the right goes for another 7-10 minutes or so past the creek.

I love this area, I've been camping up that way my whole life. Actually to be exact we were camping on Beaver Creek (6N08 / 5N48), which is actually private property. Sadly about 5 years ago they decided they didn't want anyone camping there anymore citing the stuff people left behind but I think it's more to the fact they were complaining about the fact they were practically clear cutting (just in patches of 100x100yards or whatever. It looks like a checkerboard from Satellite Imagery: Google Maps).

is beaver creek area close?

is beaver creek area close?
Yeah basically after you pass sourgrass rec area, you just continue on that road. It breaks off at one point to the left and goes into a dirt road if you go straight. Follow that road and the next time it comes to an intersection there is a bridge that crosses over beaver creek.

It's a great creek for fly fishing... for small trout (I think the biggest I've pulled out of there was like a 15" lol, but average is about 8-11"). They are small, but I've caught upwards of 50+ in a 2 hour section... though this is far too early in the season for fly fishing, look for late june / early july.

The road itself is pretty mild, I've seen civics make it way back to the cabin / meadow area.

so when you say "follow that road" you mean go straight onto the dirt road?

cool i think ill check it out.
any other neat spots in the area worth checking out?

Um, if you travel up the road a bit further there is an old cabin. From my understanding it was for loggers, and I always was scared to go into it when I was younger (like 5)... everyone told me it was haunted lol!

I made a google map for you...

Should make things easier... there are a lot of "intersections" but most you won't even notice as they don't really look like roads...
