...sorry...another build thread...

Thanks Skipper and Rob! Yah I am stoked. Just added a new float and a new rectifier to the list of things it now needs. Should be in really good shape when its all done.

Soooo… I grabbed some 1977 el dorado calipers with the brake lever at PNP. I guess I might as well shave a 14 bolt with 5.13s and regear the front now that I have these cool rusty old calipers.

I mean who wouldn't build a 14 bolt after getting these calipers?

its either deeper gearing and beefier axle or go back to 35s.

Ive ran the numbers and the shaved 14b will have the same or more clearance as my shaved hi9, and I can not worry about strapping people out of stuff , or for that matter mashing the gas pedal a little more often.

Dude... Put a loadbolt in the 9inch. You're tires aren't that big!

thats a good idea. But its still only a 8.8 ring gear, and still semi floating. as for the tires, they aren't that big yet at least…

And after I ran the numbers for going back down to 35s and going to a LP third in the rear this option is way cheaper.

Screw semi floating rears. Full float has too many advantages to not run one. No jack needed to swap out axle shafts, tires stay on so no precarious balancing on the hilift hoping to not push to hard and have the jeep fall over. My wife has now broken a rear shaft twice and I'd rather buy a knew axle than do that again. And even if you don't have a spare, you can still drive on the full floater broken.

Ya and massive ring and pinion and 3rd pinion bearing. And I will shave it.

I still run a 30 spline, welded, unshaved 60 with stock shafts and its survived all my other breakage. It will get bored out for 35 spline when time and money permit.

on order:
d44 reverse cut 5.13 and master install with ARB carrier bearings
lots of honda trail 90 parts
8 lug rims(rear only) cragar softs 8s with 4" BS
ruffstuff SRW and C&C hub caliper bracket
14 bolt bearings and seals
77 k20 front 44 brake part for rear disc swap

just received:
snap on in-lb torque(dial indicator style) wrench off ebay
250 ft lb torque wrench from summit
dial indicator with magnetic base from summit

got some work done on the trail 90 tonight-replaced fuel lines, changed oil, soaked carb in berry mans, and mocked up cool looking cone air filter for it- waiting on the right carb rebuild kit now.

getting ready for a 14 bolt swap in the rear and to re-gear the front 44 to 5.13 to match. should be interesting.

need to plate rear leaf mounts and rear frame rails now.

With a 14b out back and 36s (more planned?), won't you be wanting a 60 front?
If so... better to do it sooner than later, right?

He just did the HP44!

I wanted deeper gearing (5.13s will be nice) and bigger brakes in the rear, along with a LP rear end , and a bigger R&P. This does it all and then some. I am not worried about the 44 - carry hubs, shafts, and a spindle and lockouts. Its got some chromos too and its solid and trussed.

I need to weigh my pig someday. its one fat pig especially with this massive rear.

ya. I think the 14b is a good call for that much weight. Its only adding about 150-200 pounds over current setup since the hi9 weights like 250-320, the 14b should weigh in the 400-450 range with the disc conversion. going from say 4900 to 5100 to me doesn't seem like a weight issue, especially when I finally have an axle setup for that sort of weight.

So - will you stop carrying spares for the rear junk now that you're going 14B?

no. I don't carry them for my hi9 either. 35 spline chromos are strong and expensive. probably break ring/pinion before the shafts
