...sorry...another build thread...

bottom of the belly is just under 21"
bottom of rockers 27"
bottom of diffs around 11.5-12"
bottom of bumpers around 31"

bottom of the diff, not the axle tube, I figured 12" was pretty good. where are you at with the 39s? my 36s measure 35.5. the rear hi9 is shaved and we all know the 30 is pretty small.

if i was running 39.5s id be roughly 1.5" taller in all measurements.

but my approach angles are still pretty garbage with the big bulky front bumper but whatever. wouldn't mind stretching the thing more front and back whenever I get around to linking the rear, then ill have to move front trackbar mount forward too, etc etc.

this thing is never getting chopped up into a buggy status, just want it to be a great all around camping rig and wheeler that I can DD in a bind. so far its been that.

got the jeep back today. had the cryod ring and pinion and grizzly locker installed at west coast differentials. stoked to get all that extra strength. the old ring and pinion were toast. worn down past the hardness and all fubar. who knows why.

Wow...didn't you have trouble with the front ring and pinion around this time last year?

sorta ya. last year was swapping out a temporary lp30 (4.88s, lock right) for my hp30. this year, that hp30 had an issue with the install, half way through the year , or less, i noticed the pinion yoke was sloppy and loose and all over. apparently one of the pinion bearing races didnt seat through install or something.then it did. thus lots of play. re shimmed it and put a new pinion nut , but it was probably too late. ive been changing the gear oil every 150-200 miles since then, and constantly finding tons of metal in the diff. I dont know how that could have possibly my doings, since at that point the front end had maybe 1000-2000 miles on it.

Ya the grizzly and cryo'd R&P should be pretty darn strong compared to an open carrier with lunchbox and terribly worn out gears.

I hope it lasts well my friend... Just shows you should have gone for my HP44!!

agreed! it was more of a bandwidth thing, and I think ill pray that it lasts all year. how have you have been Tim, long time no see?

you already know probably, but i blew up the 30.

it spit out its teeth like it got in a nasty fight. with itself.

so i burnt down my jeep and shot it up good i was so pissed. then I went and bought a new jeep.

I dont have the funding for a full 60 build, so im doing a ford hp 44, gonna ditch the radius arms for a 3 link and ruffstuff 1.25 hiems and some ruffstuff steering. ive ran the numbers every which way, and the 44 is about over 1000$ cheaper to put in the 44than a ford hp60 and I shouldnt even be doing the 44 but im over the 30 for now....
:
hp60 driver drop ford housing is much more expensive
narrowing the 60 costs more
resplining a pass side shaft
its not something I can do fast and the jeep needs to be up fast.

the 44 is actually pretty cheap in comparison since its already geared, locked, chromos, high steer, 3 link setup . hoping to get close to 1300$ out of my dana 30 parts and steering

ill be going to a shaved (ring gear and housing) C&C 14b FF soon in the rear. i figure thatll be around 1400$ total , and the currie hi9 should bring in that much, so break even minus rims.

the 60 will get started in the winter... I just dont want to miss wheeling season

for now the hp44 and the hp8.8 rear should hold up to the 36s...

so im a huge hippocrite. I said id never do a ARB or a 44 front. well I got both. One thing I can say , is the 44 center section is massive compared to the 30 . massive. so nice.

so i got it in last night. Hi steer, ARB , 4.88s, chromos, 5 on 5.5, 65 wms to wms , spare hub, spare short side shaft , re inforced stock cover, and set up for a 3 link. Im pretty sure ill be using the lower control arm brackets, but thats it, so i hacked everything off. many cutting discs, sawzall blades, and a single 40 grit flap wheel and the housing is clean .

also welded the inner seam on the stiffeners, i never did it in the first place, took my time with it today. no pics though.

cleans up

went to ruffstuff today. spent way too much money.
1.25" hiems for lowers.
got all the extra bracketry, steering, etc i need for a mid arm 3 link setup.

just got done pulling the 30, gutted it, and rolled the 44 under the rig. ill be tacking up brackettry tomorrow.

im using 1.25 hiems for the lowers, 7/8" heims for the uppers, and ill build a spare upper arm for a trail spare of course.

steering and trackbar is all 7/8 hems and 1.75x.250 wall tubing.
pretty beefy. ill be centering the coil buckets on the axle, and after measuring the 30 is offset forward about 2", so by centering it, i should have a 2" stretch, which should be nice.
lowers will be flat , between 29" and 35" long, coming off the bottom of the frame to level with the lower mounts on the axle, outboarded a hair probably , but straight, not triangulated . the upper will be around 26" long.

trackbar , im hoping the ruffstuff offset trackbar mount and then building some centered coil buckets should get me good with steering.

ordered 2 sets of rims 5 on 5.5. one set with 4" backspacing, im hoping fits the front, and one 3.75" for the rear, or for the front if the 4" doesnt fit. ill be selling my beadlocks and then buying the beadlock ring kit from ballistic or A to Z fab sometime in the near future.

once i get the 44 dialed in, then the arb compressor, then ill be hunting for a 14 bolt.

also made a nice fat order to lehigh abrasives for dirt cheap cut off wheels and flap wheels. stoked. tons of 24 grit and 40 grit.

Go for it this time my friend use a Jams 54 kit with a Dana 50 r&p and you can use 35 spline
