...sorry...another build thread...

thinking about turning the hi9 into my new front end, after i swap in the ford 8.8 with chromos and a spool/truss/4.88s in the rear. i think i could call the axles done for a little while then...like just have a shop like WFO retube the thing over the winter.

You know I have a JK HP44 busted housing in my garage. The centersection is good. Combo with a sleeved and trussed D30 housing and some reid knuckles and you would have a pretty amazing axle. I would let you have it for Kharma.

i might take you up on that. the main reason for using the 9 was to utilize the full detroit and the gears, but if i sell it whole, and get your free housing, i can grab a locker etc. ill run some numbers and get back to you.

got the B and C pillars done.
once you drill some 1.5" holes through the rood you know youre comitted to finishing fast, my goal to kick myself in the butt

If your going to run the c piller base plate there i'd consider welding in some angle first into the floor/wheel tub area to spread the load.

there is another plate welded to the base plate that also bolts to the fender. i also plan on running a plate on the other side of the floor to add strength. i also plan on doing a full floor cage with the next installment of tube to help spread the load , as well as adding legs off the C pillars to the back D pillar area. i think that will help a lot

Make it quick... we are moving and I may scrap it. Seems a shame.

ill take it, because if i don't need it , i can give it to josh. how soon are you needing to get it out of there ?

the cage looks way better right now, those pics are old now.

ya ill take it.

ran some numbers:

sell hi 9 for 2000$ or close to that(install 8.8 with chromos, spool , truss, 4.88s, and all new brakes, ruffstuff cover)

sell 35s for like
600$

build JK hp44

narrow and re tube (WFo?)
300$

use my 30 outers/brakes/steering/unit bearings ( i will get flamed for this) 0$

JK control arm brackets work, just not coil buckets or track bar, ill redo those should be like
60$

1310 yoke
60$

35 spline detoit
600$

custom RCVS (35 spline inners, dana 30 27 spline outers)
1200

gears and master install
250$

d30 knuckle gussets
40$

build my own truss
60$ in steel

total cost should be around 2700, and ill get around that for the 9" and the 35s, or close enough to it.

i don't even know why I'm building a jeep when i should be saving up money to buy that. my priorities are all screwed up.

fixed a few broken windows. one from the con last year, one from this weekend.
plan on getting the willys done and showing it off at the next meet n greet.

getting ready to finally wheel the willys soon...

have been donig a ton of work on the darn thing. all new gauges, paint, steering, replaced fuel pump, added a cd player and some speakers, tons of stuff. (axles , suspnsion, steering, power steering, power brakes, brakelines, tons, and tons of other crap are all new)

things all painted up

WOW!!! Damn Jon that willys came a long way. looking great

yah we went nuts on this thing practically everything is new. once i find out what gas tank and fuel sending unit we have we are going to replace those as well. with the rebuilt carb , a bunch of acetone in the tank with some MMO and fuel injector cleaner and new fuel pump it runs so much better now as well.

sometime over the winter ill build a belly pan and some sliders, and call it done. we also need 1 new 31" BFG km2 if anyone has any. We have 2 new KM2s and one other new tire from some part out rig and one of the old ones. I figure we need to swap that out. im exicted to wheel it with a lockright up front and chromos. only downside, a 34:1 crawl ratio. t90s kinda suck for the first gear is only 2.9 :1 . the axles are 4.88, dont want to go any deeper with the 3spd, and the dana 18 is 2.46 which is good. future down the road plans are to swap in a t18 with the 6.3:1 first gear (puts me up to 75:1 crawl ratio) and then do either AA 3.15 dana 18 gears (822$) , or throw in jack o briens 4.86:1 t case gears(1500$, and he is located in roseville, all custom) .
a junked t18 probably next year and rebuild it and get the AA dana 18 adapter (or a sm465 or a np435) . The following year maybe do the jack o brien gears in the tcase. that will put it at 150:1 with a practically stock setup. maybe then we will go up to 33s....

more tube work. pretty much done with the cage for now. If its still in one piece next year, i plan on building a floor cage then.

Added in cowl bar, A pillars, and C pillar legs

Im not a huge fan of the external A pillar since it doesn't seem to add a ton of strength to the halo in the sense that it wont support a downward force as well being on the side of the halo instead, but it is better than nothing, and hopefully will add side to side support and mostly just help keep the halo up on the roof a little more than it would if they weren't there. plus its A pillar protection, thats a perk, not the purpose of the build.
