...sorry...another build thread...

so i did the cowl airbox mod thing where you cut a 3" hole in the back of the airbox and a 3" hole at the firewall and route some flex tube. didnt cost anything and i just calculated my MPG int he range of 16.8-18.6 range with an average of 17.6 instead of the old 11-13.5 range (calculated over a 132 mile stretch an 7.5 gals used) .
i am totally stoked it worked very well, i honestly cant believe the increase.

Pics or it didn't happen!

You asked about the paint job somewhere...

Still need to color sand and buff away our mistakes as soon as she cures. Body is close to perfect (Jon even closed up my cut n fold with fiberglass) though and I love the color.

yah i used the stock airbox. ill post pics tonight hopefully. also finished the lca skids and started a rear cargo rack for the inside cargo area.
i think i have been having an airflow issue. i used to run the rustys air tube that the jeep came with and i used to get 18mpg, years ago. took off the tube , went to 35s and 4.88s and figured 12mpg was normal.

ive dont religious style maintenence with new plugs, cap, rotor, wires, acTPS, O2 sensor, oil, air and fuel filters all done every year and still bad MPG for the last 2 years and still maxed uot at 13.5. my guess is that that valve at the front of the renix box was staying closed or semi closed and casuign very little air flow. now with lots of air flow its getting good MPG with the ford injectors and everythign else ( new exhaust manifold and gasket, etc)

paint looks so good!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wow that jeep is really coming along!

How she came to me...

revrok that jeep has really come around...
here are some pics of my dirt cheap snorkel wanna be cowl set up that cost 5$ and brought me from 12-13.5 MPG to 16.25-17.5 (recalculated the MPG after refilling the XJ today)

i still need to make a block off for the front intake. im going to make it removable so i can enjoy greater airflow for non water crossing driving...

it is RTVd on both sides as well. im going to fill the two big holes in the bottom of the airbox and leave the two small ones left for drainage.

Jon you really gained that much MPG with this MOD? Do you think its the increased airflow? I am very interested in your procedure, I could sure use the extra MPG myself and look forward to seeing how your MODS will work for my rig. Thanx

yah but it was all reeway, it still sucks around town, but it does seem alot better.
i think i was having airflow problems before, the only source of air has that valve for the egr on the renix, i think there was some blockage there. the HOs dont have the egr valve at the front of the airbox, but i would guess for the 6$ you spend youd get at least 1 mpg increase minimum...

yep they are leaf spring plates and they work great. just a little cutting here and there...

the mpg went down to like 15mpg on long drives but thats better than 13.

i had to convert my cooling system to the open style tonight after accidentally drilling through my radiator while trying to make holes for the tranny cooler. i was moving it out of the way to get ready to mount the winch. so stupid. swapped in a all metal radiator and left the rest of the closed system in for now. i plan to take some pics and wire the winch to the dash. vut out the grill to clear the winch.
also getting my JCR 4 bolt inner plate on monday and going to bolt up the agr 4 bolt box i have lying around....

"Damn" is right. Thankfully it was through the top. I was drilling out a seat belt weld-nut on a Toyota because the last guy to work there cross-threaded a bolt, and removing it removed the threads for the seat belt. So I go to drill out the mess & go one size up on hardware and *whoops* what is that gas smell?

oh man that would suck so bad.
luckily i had a few radiators lying around so it worked out well.
sucks though since mine was only 3-4 years old but whatever i now have an open system and a all metal radiator instead of the cheapo plastic sides ones...

recently :
camera is messed up...
bolted/wired up the winch recently and threw the solenoids inside the engine compartment,
fixed the a/c(new condensor, dryer, charged it with R12 and fixed a bunch of wiring...)
installed 4 bolt AGR steering box with JCR 4 bolt inner plate and new hardware, as well as those rustys baja style fender flares...
