We had a guy renting one of the apartments on top of the hardware store where i work, completely crazy. One day he decided to go to the car dealership and get a brand new pickup and sports car, about $60,000 worth. He had developed ok credit when he was still taking his medicine a few years back, so he got approved, and somehow he had convinced himself that gm was paying for the whole thing because he used to work for them. Needless to say, they were repoed in about 2 weeks. Ironically,(due to where i am posting this) his paid for vehicle is a jeep and it has been sitting in our parking lot since we evicted him about 2 months ago.

Not all together true. A consumer with a lot of available credit is not comforting to a lender. The more available credit you have, the more risk that you will tap into that credit and put yourself into a difficult situations. A lot of lenders will even force you to close your available credit accounts in order to obtain funds from them.

He is right. Better to close them if you are never going to use them. Or at least call the credit card company and tell them you are going to close them unless they lower your limit. Some of your score is based on the % used of the $$s you have available. Have them lower your limits, if they are reporting your limit to the credit report.

Biggest score factory is number of credit file pulls/inquires in the last 6 months.

I was trying to get a 1982 CJ-7 through esentially the same means, according to SD law, both axles were trashed, but as soon as someone showed some interest, he cared about it suddenly. I am glad I didn't get it...now I get to build the XJ.

Yeah well I see him around every once in a while.
the thing is he's so crazy and poor that i honestly think that if i offered him $10 and a six pack for his jeep, he wouldn't think twice. The thing is i have a conscience and i think i would feel pretty guilty for taking a mentally disturbed man's jeep.
