Rubicon reminder, July 14-15

I posted about 5 months or so ago about a Rubicon run on July 14th and 15th, just sending out a reminder. There will be a couple of XJs coming from Idaho and possibly an XJ or two from the PNWXJ group. Do we still have some local NAXJA guys wanting to come along and lead this thing? I've done it on motorcycle back when I lived in CA (a long, long time ago) but have never taken the XJ all the way through (last 4th went in from Tahoe side just up to Cadilac Hill). Anyhow, would be great to have some more XJs out there.....

I have it marked on the calendar. This will likely be my first big run of the season. I have never been all the way through though, just into Spider from the loon side a half dozen times. Could be the blind leading the blind, but I believe some of our more experienced members have talked about going too.

OK, Lockright for the D35 is in the mail and spare shafts are in the back tucked in next to the spare! Anybody else planning on making this run? Jes, you still coming along? By the way, I like the quarter panel armor you have on the rear, those are sweet!

Jes (or any other Rubicon veterans), is it reasonable to think that we can start at Loon Lake on Monday morning and finish by Tuesday evening? What about camping, is Rubicon Springs the ticket if you are doing it as a 2 day? Just trying to get all the details worked out. Here's who's coming from ID, WA that I know of;

PhatXJ (97XJ, 6+" lift, locked f&r, skids, 35s)
Dave G (2000XJ, 8" lift, locked f&r, skids, 35s)
4 Runner (locked f&r, 33s or 35s, lots of mods)
Me (94XJ, rear locker, 32s, skids)

I guess I am the least equipped of the bunch with my single locker and 32s! Anyhow, between us we have spare shafts, steering, u-joints, etc. and we've all wheeled plenty in the rocks. Very much looking forward to it!!

The best bet is to camp at Buck Island. Then it's an easy few hours to finnish up the trail the next day.
Why do you guys want to run it in two days?

Jes

Dave and Dave have to drive back to civilization on Wednesday so that is why the 2 day trip. Would be nice to take our time and make it a 3 day trip, but logistically it just wasn't working out. Hmm, maybe we can finish Wednesday and then they can drive back afterwards. I'll see what they think.

Dave N (PhatXJ) can do the 3 days he said.. He can't post right now cause he's got computer issues. How ironic since he's a computer nerd ;)

Alright, everyone can do it as a 3 day! So doing it this way, what are the camp spots if you want to finish up by midday on Wednesday? Spider Lake & then Rubicon Springs? Oh, and I saw somewhere that you make great trail margaritas Jes

Anyone else gonna make this run?

i think iam going to try! i need to get my 231 in first though!

stoney

OH YEA i got a SPARE for u jes! now i just need to remeber to put it in my jeep!

Its not looking good for me now. Company scheduled a training session in Foster City on the 15th for my customers. Someday I might actually get to do some wheelin away from my monitor.

Jeff

Jason, my rig is a '96 :D

I'll be there for sure. If we decide to do it in 3 days and finish up on Wed, thats fine. Even if we have issues on Wed and I am not able to make it home, I can probably take another day off. I may take an extra day off anyway.

Jes, you better be there to guide us. Remember, we're just a bunch of rookies from Idaho :D

Alright.
The best bet would be to hit the trail early Monday and screw around all day taking all the hard lines(except the box ;) ) and head down to Buck and camp there two nights. It's nice to have a day just to hang out at Buck because it's so beutiful and the first day on the trail can tire ya out. With four rigs we should be able to finnish up the trail Wednesday morning in about 2-1/2 hours. The end of the trail is really easy(comparatively).

What about front tow points, tire patch kit, onboard air, non flopping around brake lines, or actually having 4WD?!?

Jes

Sounds good Jes, if you come for sure, there should be at least 5 rigs for positively sure.

Dave N. (me)
Dave G.
Jes
Jason (JKTXJ)
Mark (4Runner)

Hopefully some of the other local guys that you know Jes can come, a couple more rigs would be cool.

Phat, I got so tired of seeing "Project 96", I just decided to toy with ya a little. Good eye! Man, I am pumped for this Rubicon run. And my new front bumper is sweet!!! I wish I had somewhere to host a pic right now.

Just a quick bit of news guys. I live very close to the trail and do a lot of wheeling up on the trail. U S Forest service just got a grant for more law enforcement officers & they're all up on the trail now. Be cool with the "frosty cool ones" while on the trail. Save ya some grief.

The sheriffs on the quads are old news. Saw them up there a few weeks ago and as long as your not being an a$$ they won't bother you.

Jes

You're right about sheriffs on quads. They're pretty good up there. Forest service just got the grant money recently & have brought on USFS officers to gear up for Jeep Jamboree. Not really a big deal but just a lot of them up there in the comming weeks. As long as you're not drinking & driving it's fine. They're mainly up there to keep a few A-Holes from ruining it for everybody else
