Rubicon in June

I mean there was NO crawling involved, only throttle and bouncing. Do you even have a locker? Whoever told you that is either a moron or very confused. You may be able to make it through the Rubicon, but you will be too much a liability to the rest of the group, and I don't think there's any way you could get through Fordyce; I only went to the first crossing and back with my similar setup and it's much harder after that.

You clearly do not meet the requirements for gearing, and you haven't even mentioned other things like a locker, skids, tow points, etc. Keep saving and building and wait until you are ready.

Typical Sierra Chapter Rubicon requirements are:
One locker or two limited slips.
-31" tires
-Spare front axle shafts if you are running 260 joints.
-Spare rear shafts if you have a Dana 35 or a 27 spline 8.25.
-tow strap
-tow points front and rear
-T-case skid.
-Appropriate gearing for tire size. For example: 31's could run stock 3.55's, 33's should have at least 4.11's, 35's should have 4.56's. Low T-case gears can make up for diff gearing deficiencies.
-Spare tie rod and drag link if you are running 33's or larger and still have stock steering.

Stuff that is nice to have:
-If you care about body damage, get some rocker skids. The 'Con LOVES to bite XJ rockers when running smaller lifts/tires.

(list adapted/stolen from CRASH)

required equipment:
1. Visably charged fire extinguisher(BC or ABC)
2. First aid kit
3. Adequate spare tire, jack, and lug wrench
4. Safety belts for driver and any current passenger(belts must be worn at all times while vehicle is moving!
5. Adequate attachment points in the front and rear of the vehicle
6. Snatch strap without any metal hooks
7. Secured battery(no bungee cords!)

CB radio is highly recommended.

That is some good advice right there, Nick. You should learn to listen to people who are telling it to you straight.

Yes you can most likely run the trail with your set-up, but you will likely run into trouble along the way. Trouble that we as a group are trying to avoid. NAXJA is not Cal-Trans for trail paving to make it easy for you, and NAXJA isn't AAA. Fixing unprepared Jeeps along the trail is not my idea of a fun weekend.

just because you arent running your junk doesnt mean you can come...

Im sure Alex has an empty seat....

It now looks like I'm out for this run. I thought I'd finally be able to do the 'Con. But no, not yet anyway. I hope everyone else has a great time up there.

Now there is an idea. Go enjoy the trail and see what it is all about before you drive it yourself.

I don't think its really open for discussion. But here are my thoughts. You can:

1) get lockers and gears installed before the run, go and have a good time, maybe still break some crap.

2) ride along with someone, go have a good time, and be glad they are breaking some crap and not you

3) Take your junk against the advice given here, break some crap, and get left on the trail.

I suggest 1 or 2. It is likely to still be very wet up there in many places making it that much more difficult for you to get through in a TIMELY manner. I'm not trying to get on you, I'm just trying to make your experience a positive one for everyone.

The mostly likely thing that will happens because these guys won't leave you stranded is; one of them will end up breaking somehthing on their rig trying to drag your ass through the trail. Don't be that guy.

ok well does anyone have an extra seat- ill pick up some cold ones for who ever lets me ride along
alex has already has someone riding along w/ him

that sounds like a really good idea riding along is better then not going
plus ill get to meet the people ive been talking to

:( :( My dad isn't coming with me after all. He's going out on his boat instead.

I'll meet up with anyone who wants to meet, at 8AM in Davis. Where? Um, don't know yet.

I may not be online any more this week, so if you want to get ahold of me, (530)220-2031.

Hey, looks like we are making a line here. :)

I could be persuaded to through the back seat in my wrangler. There would be a heafty fee though!:rof:

If you REALLY REALLY must go, I will take the back seat and you can ride superduperbitch. I am not hitting the trail till midnight though. You would be meeting me in Placerville at 930 friday night if you wanted this seat. I need to know thursday afternoon. Somer serious gas money would be way better than beer. My beer is more expensive than gas, you cant afford it. You can give me a ton o money for gas though.

Matt

Im not planning to driving this run, but am considering tagging along. I am however curious as to the gearing requierments on 32" tires. My gears are at 3.55. Im locked in the front w/ LS in the rear. I think a ride along the first time is a good idea. Especially a trail like the Rubicon.

If anyone has to drive a long distance and wants to get closer to the trail thursday night, I live right off 50 in Fair Oaks (Hazel Ave), less than 2hrs from the trail and could offer a sofa or air mattress.

OK, one day away. I am leaving tonight and meeting some friends in Placerville. I talked to Phil last night. The plan is to meet at the loon lake staging area below the dam. 11:00 am Friday morning. The group will be leaving the staging area and onto the trail at approx 11:30. The plan is to camp at Buck Island Lake, we will be at the far end of the lake closest to the Tahoe side and the waterfall. Just look for the XJs, you will see us. :) CB channel 35 for those coming late. If for some reason you miss the main group, there will be a late night run leaving Friday night.

I can't wait to leave. Work sucks, and I want to go home and pack.:banghead:
