That might be a little extreme, but I dont think a 1911 is a good idea for a first gun. Especially when hes not looking to spend very much.

I have a kahr cw9 that is an awesome and reliable gun. About the same cost and size as an lcp but has one point that I liked more, the ruger is made in italy where ther kahr is made in the USA.
