Question for those Fresno area guys:

The Mirror Lake trail might be just what you're looking for. It's close to the Hwy & it's probably less than 1/4 mile to the lake & back. It's the hardest trail in the area, harder than anything on the Dusy, but you won't have any trouble with 33's & lockers.

Well it's your choice Brett, Mirror, Red/Coyote or something easy like Strawberry. All three are right there.

okay, that map helps a lot! I've got a similar thread going on PBB and it sounds like Mirror is one of the more difficult ones in the area, so maybe we'll do Mirror, then if it's still early go in and out to Red.

i think i've got enough to go on now, but some pictures of Mirror would still be cool

once again, thank you!

Mirror is on the way to Red. You can see the entire trail from the trailhead, it's basically just a long, rocky hill down to the Lake, then back up the same hill to exit.

I know I read that the Swamp Lake trail is pretty hard, but maybe we can hit 1-2 of the smaller trails since we will be in the area 7/16-18 for the NAXJA run.

Strawberry just wears me out. Its more bumpy than fun sometimes.

It's one hour or so from 168 to the "Sandy Flats" where all the trails start. Air down as soon as you turn off 168. The ride will be much nicer.

To enjoy Swamp it will take all weekend. It can be done in one day, but that's really pushing it and not really enjoying the lake. Most guys with XJ's on 31's and open can make it through Swamp. You should have rails to protect against body damage and it is also required to have adequate front and rear tow points.

If you do something different, you will have fun, but you'll be missing out on a great NAXJA run. Didn't you say before we need to stick together as a group?

Mirror Lake trail has one steep rocky hill, going down it to the lake, and then back, the rest of the short trail is dirt. This one hill is the hardest spot on any of the trails in the Shaver area, but the whole trail takes 30 min to run.

Just to have a fun day wheeling, I'd do Bald Mt. Look around while running the trail for optional stuff, there's plenty of it.

Have fun,

Yeah, I do want to stay in the group. I was just suggesting something.

If anyone is searching for any more input on this topic, I also posted a similar thread on PBB: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=263776

As for my Saturday, I've pretty much settled on running Mirror, then into Red/Coyote to the end or whenever I feel like turning around. My understanding is that Bald Mt. is open year-round, so maybe I'll do that when I'm home from school over Christmas break.

Just to give an update on this, I went and did Mirror Lake and had a great time. It's fun little trail but wasn't much of a challenge at all, even with my 33" street tires and not locking the front ARB. The lake was really nice, and a great place to take my "date". We got a late start and spent several hours at the lake, but if you went straight down to the lake and straight back you could do it in an hour from Sandy Flats.

here's a picture from Mirror Lake, I let my "date" drive what was probably the hardest part, and it was her first time wheeling ever. :D
