Putting the new axels in this weekend

OOOPSS just found oout an error I made putting in the axels yesterday. When the track bar was installed it was for some reason too short so we pulled the axel drivers side with a come a long. Then the sway bar disconnects were skewed and would not fit. Well thinking about it last night (2am) I just thought that the track bar should have been adjusted and this morning found this:
"With the Jeep sitting on the ground and track bar attached to the frame and the axle end not attached, have another person move the steering wheel and the body will shift in the direction you want while the axle stays planted on the ground. Still holding the steering wheel, measure from something common on the body of the jeep around the wheel wells to determine that the wheels are centered in the wheel wells equally on both sides. Loosen the jam nut and adjust the track bar until the axle side bolt will go into the mount on the axle. "
This sounds right to me so I will be going back and trying this out. I'll straighten out the steering wheel while I'm at it.

If you didn't change suspension height and the track bar was right to begin with, shouldn't it be correct now? We should have measured, though, instead of assuming...
LMK how it turns out & how the jeep drives with the new round of goodies.

OK, today all by myself :bawl: I went back to clean up somethings that did not get done yesterday. After yesterday high energy buzzing with everyone there it was a little like walking through mud by myself today trying to get anything done. :banghead:

Needed to get the track bar in the right location as after measuring frame to outside of the tire it was off by 2". Don't know how a straight swap over could have moved, raised, changed anything but there you have it. DONE

I am going to check it again after a couple of days just to see. :eyes:

Now for the first thing that I would like help with is this:

The stabilizer shock is blocked, from being installed, by the track bar

As you can see the stabilizer bracket on the bar and the location on the frame have the track bar running right through it.

Next the rear axel. The shock mounts have been raised but now they are both on the back side of the axel.

That's fine but what I want to do is move them to the stock location and have them raised too so what is the best way to go about it? I don't want to cut off the bracket on the old axel as I need to sell it.

Any ideas? :dunno:

Tim,
Something doesn't look right with that track bar mount location on the axle end. It looks like it is just bolted to the outside of somewhere in single-shear. There is no way that will hold up and I would be afraid to drive it in that configuration.

Tuck the track bar up INSIDE this bracket. Then run the bolt through. It would probably be a good idea to get a new bolt as well especially if its still the stock 10mm. Get metric grade 10.9 if you can find them.

The rear shock mounts are not going to work as is. Really just a small fab job to get some factory style mouts back on there. You can even hack them off your old axle and reweld them on the new up higher. It will also help them work better with the lower bolts running front to back and not side to side. If that makes sense. They will pivot on the bushing instead of flex into the bolt.

Look at this

Here is better look at it Eric. What it is is the bracket on the axel that is open is smaller/narrower than the one that the track bar is attached to. Meaning that the track bar will not fit in the open one on the axel. It appears to be the right size for the stabilizer shock.
More ideas, thoughts, suggestions?

Here is another shot:

Small fab job is ok. Would taking a 10.9 bolt that fit the shock then welded it onto the axel, Driver side pointing to the rear and Passenger side pointing forward, work? too weak?

The track bar should fit inside the bracket (A). If it won't fit, the previous owner was probably using a track bar with a heim joint that is narrower than your stock-style bushing. Might want to ask him... (B) is the stabilizer mount judging by how it lines up with the tabs on the steering linkage.

Best guess from what I can see is you probably need to run a different track bar, similar to what the previous owner had, or get a new track bar bracket and weld it onto the axle.

Thank you Eric for your input.

I did not see that attachent spot so I will go and look and to see if that is what we over looked. :repair:

OK i took another look and I see what you were talking about Eric. Thanks for the added tip and it now makes sence what Gordon was saying too about needing aa double sheer attacment point.
I do appriciat the help.

For the 3 link I would think for the short run you could get away with the stock frame side upper mount. But plan on building a stronger frame side upper mount as soon as you can or just eventually get the 4th link on the pass side. Temporary you are fine

Ahh, the fun of an axle swap, or both in your case. It's looking good Tim. If you need some "new" shock mounts for the rear, let me know. I took the stock mounts off my d44 awhile back and for some unknown reason kept them around. So now I have some stock mounts you can use if you want them. They will need a but of grinding just to clean up the mounting area, but are still useable. Let me know.

Rob that would be great! What do you want for them and can you ship them? I would like to modify them and raise them up on the axel a little more anyway so I will be grinding anyway. Thank you so much for the offer!

Just cover the cost of the shipping is all I need for these. I've already got a box for them so no cost for shipping materials either. Pm me an address and I'll get the price for ya and get them moving in your direction.

Wait Rob.... the d44 does not have the same mounting orientation as the Chry 8.25 does it???

Chry 8.25, This is what I am trying to do

I dont thisnk the D44 is the same with the pin pointing streaight abckor forward on the passenger side.
