I am installing my new axels this weekend that I got from Turbobrick. they are a high pinion, non-disconnect Dana 30. It has 4.88 gears, 27 spline ARB, Solid diff cover, lube locker, truss, inner 'C' gussets, outer axle tube seals, EMS Dana 44 hub conversion, stainless brake lines, Iron Rock Offroad over the knuckle steering, IRO track bar, all steering is double sheared, Clayton lower mounts, stock upper driver side mount, RE upper mount on the passenger side, chromoly inner and outer shafts, Longfield 300m ujoints, with freshly rebuilt Yukon chromoly Super Joints.
And a Chrysler 8.25. It has 4.88 gears with a 29 spline ARB, 29 spline Alloy shafts, Solid diff cover with lube locker, IRO truss, WJ disc brake conversion with KJ parking brake cables, stainless brake line, raised shock mounts, diff skid with integrated traction bar mounts, with a slip and twist traction bar.
With the help of yossarian19 and a couple of other friends I hope to make short work of this unlike the other projects I have taken on which should read like a short story but end up being another War and Peace.
I will take pictures and post them when it's done.

I am looking forward to this skipper! I cant wait to hear how you like the newly found throttle response! because you will love it!!!!

Dear 35s,
Here I come!
-Tim

congrats Tim, you will love the new axles!
personally, i like 4.88's with 33's, that's whats under my green heep.

Ya I was just messing. Tim is right. My best gearing to tire feel was 4.88s and 33s. I wish I stayed there. Don't worry about 35s. Just run your 32s until they die, then get some 33s and enjoy the excess power. 4.88s and 33s was plain awesome.

Oh and the SMUD jeep poker run is on Fathers Day weekend in June. Retiree's welcome. Hope to see you there. Last year I shocked everyone in my little XJ, it would be cool to give them a double take. LOL

I didn't have any dents in my jeep until I had some capable axles. Just keep that in mind as you progress. The can I make it has been winning over the should I even try it...

I hear you Josh as I already have been thinking about Slick Rock and Gate Keeper and how I am going to climb it. :anon:

I went with my first XJ just before I left the country in 2006 and it did great with 3.5" lift and stock tires.

What is the date of the Poker Run this year?

You've gotten a couple suggestions to stay with 33's instead of going to 35's. I'll give another one. Obviously those axles will be very durable with 35's but if I remember correctly this XJ is more than just a wheeling rig for you and Lisa. My XJ was a daily driver with 31's and then 33's. Going to 35's was the point for me when it wasn't as comfortable to use the jeep as a daily driver anymore. The added weight of the larger tires finally hit a point that resulted in noticeable reduced braking power, less effective steering power, less get-up-and-go, worse gas mileage, worse wheel balancing, etc. You can daily drive on 35's and lots of guys do, but it adds a whole lot more wear and tear on components. For me I enjoyed having a capable jeep / daily driver when I had 33" tires.

Truth...I'd love to have a good reliable xj to haul my cooler and tent around the Sierras. The last time I had that it was on 33" tires back when a tank of gas could get me nearly 300 miles.

Thank you guys for you tier suggestions as they did get me to thinking about what wound be the best direction to go. :eyes:

Ultimately weighting your thoughts and taking into account all your years of experience and expertise in building and wheeling XJ's this is what swayed me the most. A 5'4" voice that said I cant get in easily if you make it too high, not do it. :loveu:

So I will be going with my first inclination of 33's. :sunshine:

Got the rear mostly installed tonight. I wanted to take pictures but my phone went dead so the camera didn't work
the shocks on the axel have been relocated higher which is great but I cant see how to hook them up using the stock location on the body.
Also still need to hook the emergency break lines too but that looks to be easy.
Tomorrow, finish the rear axel install and do the front axel.
I am going to take the camera and take pictures of the procedure.
It was all I could do not to take the rig for a spin to see how it feels.

Well that was way more work than I thought it would be but they are both in with just a few hick up along the way.
First I need to thank Tom yossarian19, Larry, Gary and Thomas for all their help because there was no way I cold have done it with out it.

This will satisfy me and a need to upgrade from a LP D30 to a HP D30 and then some.
