Re: where have all the good cherokees fs gone

oh god....your didn't paint your bolt heads.....oh god, why....

(my OCD kicking in, everytime I paint a fender I usually stick some extra fender bolts in an old piece of foam to make sure I have enough color matched bolt heads.

You need a 99+ intake on there now.......I got an extra laying around here......

I heard that this is a good upgrade. Have you ever done it? What kind of improvement would I see on lil'dirtys 98? We need to take off the intake soon to replace the gasket.

My Jeep came with one one of those, but it doesn't have the extra CATS on the exhaust manifold. I guess that means its supposed to be fast, but I'm not seeing (or feeling) it.

10HP, IIRC. Air moves much easier in the 99+ mainifold. Worth the effort? YMMV. :D

thanks, I may find you as handsome. :D -- "your mileage may vary"

Re: where have all the good cherokees fs gone

I just put a '99 + manifold on my dads '97 TJ...I can tell the difference on the highway going up hills, seems to pull them a tad easier now.

I just drove to denver this afternoon and did noticed a difference going up the hills on the highway...my jeep usually downshifts to maintain speed going up the big hill before castle rock but today it stayed in overdrive all the way up the hill. Im not a big believer in bolt on items providing much if any perormance, but in the altitude the intake seems to actually make a difference(im from michigan originally) After today i think i wanna try to get a 99 manifold and see if it makes a little difference like the intake tube/filter did...the two together might be pretty sweet.

Re: where have all the good cherokees fs gone

After comparing the two intakes side by side, I can definitely see how the newer one flows better. If you can find one cheap enough, and don't mind a little time out of your day, I'd say it's worth the effort. I think it took me maybe an hour to swap them out.

Just be prepared to bend your arm and wrist into configurations only Stretch Armstrong would have ever thought to do!

Re: where have all the good cherokees fs gone

This week has been crazy, i lost a serpentine belt on saturday, only to have the new one skip a forward a rib on the alternator by monday. After taking the belt back off and examining the pulleys the harmonic balancer had started to seperate aftter all the rubber between the two pieces dry rotted and mostly fell out.

My water pump had a little bit of play in the shaft, and my radiator had been weeping a little for weeks now. So tuesday morning i bought a new radiator, upper and lower rad. hoses, thermostat/gasket, temp censor, water pump, harmonic balancer, and another serpentine belt.

I also picked up a 29 spline 8.25 carrier, have some 29 spline shafts ready for me to pick up, and ordered 4.56 gears/install kit/riddler diff cover. This thing is gonna be like brand new by the time im done lol!

I grabbed a pic of me parked next to a rescue green jk rubicon at lunch the other day too. You can definately tell that the lower line of ppg basecoat i used has more of the gold pearl in it then the factory chrysler color...but its pretty close and i still really love the color.
