Well still haven't gotten this thing finished yet. Been a busy beginning of the year for us. Gonna start finishing up the brake work this week to hopefully be able to get it driving and stopping on its own. Pretty much just have a lot of little things left to do.
On a side note, someone give me some pros and cons on just welding up the front end of this thing. I know that putting a selectable locker is best thing to do or just doing a lunchbox locker for it but its just not gonna be in the cards for a while. Was thinking of just welding up the front end of it for now and start saving up for a selectable to go into it in the future. My thinking is with having the lock outs on it i can just leave one side unlocked and still be able to turn decent on the trails and everything and if i need the other side locked in i can just get out and turn the knob. I know a little extra work on the trails doing it this way but really don't see it any different that what a selectable locker would be except for pushing a button to disengage locker instead of turning lock outs. Just thinking out loud right now that just welding it up will get me locked all the way around and out on the trails.
I essentially do the same thing with my spool up front. i leave a hub unlocked for trail riding. it sucks. dont do it. im saving for a selectable. im getting hydro assist so hopefully that will help enough that i can just leave both hubs locked.
Well i already have the new gears installed so would hate to go thru a bunch of work of putting these axles in and be open in the front. Im hoping to have a selectable in there for moab. Pretty much just tossing around some ideas right now on what to do. Not like im gonna get a whole lot of wheeling done this year anyhow but would like it locked up for times that i do go.
I welded folding chairs shut in shop class when in Jr. high....it relates to the welding of a front diff in the fact that it worked but was probably not the best idea.
Thanks all for the insight. Guess i will just finish getting it moving and then save up for either a detroit or spartan or something along those lines.
Well looks like I screwed up on my steering. Wasn't thinking and cut up the steel for the old Ford knuckles and not the jeep knuckles that I'm using. Got the heims threaded out a little too far for my taste. Looks like I'll be getting some new steel coming in for steering.
Here is what steering is threaded out to right now. There is still quite a bit of of the heim inside the tube but thinking I should buy new don't and redo it.
