Project: Freak of Nature

Well past weekend I picked up the 3rd member with 5.14 gears and mini spool ready to drop into the 9". That should pretty much take care of the rear axle besides doing the brakes.

Now it has gotten me thinking about the front. Was just gonna put the gears in for now and do a lunch box locker later on but starting to think I should just save up for a good selectable locker for the front. Been looking at the zip locker, arb, ox, or the eaton e-locker. Haven't really heard anything about the e-locker so don't know if they have any problems. I know there are quite a few that run the zip locker with good success. Does it really come down to which one you want to run? Or is one better than the others?

I liked my zip in my 44 so much that I bought one for my 10.25" Justin aka doworkxj here or Rock Ready Motorsports on fb got me a crazy good deal on mine.

I have the on board air on the jeep using the ac pump. Wonder if I could use that or if I would have to buy separate air compressor for locker.

Have it fill a tiny tank and that's all you would need.

I have a 2.5 gallon air tank mounted in back. Guess I can always find a small tank to mount up under hood for just locker

Doing the disc brake swap on the 9" this weekend. Anybody that's done this before had to shave down the axle shaft flanges a little bit to get the rotor to sit against the flange? Can't get the rotor to slide over axle shaft

Well I'm using the Barnes 4wd brackets but guess I got wrong rotors. I've seen the rotors mounted behind the flange and the rotor on outside of flange. Is there any big difference between the 2 ways

You would have to install studs through both. Would be pia. Put rear on jack stands put in gear and go to town w grinder. Easy

Got it all figured out and fixed this evening. Returned the rotors I had picked up and got some for an 01 dodge ram. Axle should be going back in for final time tomorrow evening

Got the rear axle installed tonight. Just need to pick up some different lug nuts to mount the tires up. Still need to do brake hard lines but getting there slowly. Center section was already painted so leaving it for now. Will eventually get new paint on everything.

Been trying for past couple days to get old ford knuckles off the front dana 44. I know there is the little collar that goes down inside the inner c and around the ball joint itself. Haven't picked up the special socket for it yet but shouldn't the knuckle still be able to fall off without removing that ball joint collar first?
