Project: Freak of Nature

Well as it sits right now I don't have the center section in it. It's not moving anywhere just using it for a little mock up while I go thru the real axle going under.

Right now I'm gonna try and use the shocks that I have if I can get them to work. Will play around with it a little more over I get the front back on tires. Will look at moving the shackle to furthest forward hole to see what that does. Hopefully it won't drop it to far and tire be into sliders. If I have to I can always trim up the sliders a bit and angle the ends to get some clearance.

I will have to keep an eye on drive shaft in rear. Didn't know if I would have to lengthen it or shorten it.

something interesting i also noticed when i installed my 9... the pinion is indeed longer. but because of the high hypoid offset i actually needed a longer driveshaft rather than shorter like i had though. curious if you find the same thing.

i ran into the same thing when swapping out my 44 for a 9"

Well have got parts coming in from 3 different places so I should be set to go for most part. Have next week off work so gonna try and get it sitting back on all 4's. Still need to order diff parts but getting it sitting in tires again is key right now. Looking at just buying some alloy shafts for the 9" from summit racing. Local PNP yards want $100 per stock axle shaft. I can get brand new chromoly shafts for about $20-30 more. No brainer there.

Stock 31 spline is all I ever used in my 9 with 38's.

Are you trussing the 9?

They didn't make a truss for the radius arm 44 when I did mine, so I built mine.

Stock 44 shafts are junk.

Right now I wasn't planning on trusses. Haven't really looked into them. Guess I know what I'm shopping for today at work

i think youll be fine on a good pair of chromos for the rear. if you have issues with the wheel bearing leaking, i have a super slick set 20 bearing with an extra seal on it. i can get you a part number if needed.

the front will be your biggest headache, depending on how mean you are to it.

Gonna be similar to Clayton. Made it before and it worked so why change it. Course it depends on how arms end up landing on crossmember

Slowly getting stuff done this week. Took the week off to work on it. Pretty much just track welding stuff right now just in case I have to change it. Still have bracing and stuff to add to crossmember along with making it a 3 piece design.

Here is how it's sitting currently. Gonna figure something out for axle coil mount since factory ones are rusted thru.

Is there a good weldable primer I can spray on these parts to keep from rusting? With the jeep being out in the elements I don't want it to start rusting before i get to fully welding it within next week.

You picked an awesome week weather wise to work on it!

Yea I did. Lucked out there. Got today and tomorrow to work on it. Then leave camping Friday

Are you going to brace the angle iron on the crossmember?

Looking good
Yes I am gonna brace it all in. Didn't realize the crossmembers on xj's are different than zj's so my 2x4 box tube end to end didn't work out. It will get braces then welded onto the stiffeners when they get put on.

So that I don't screw up the knuckles, putting 3/4 heim steering on front I drill out knuckles to 3/4" correct?
