Probably should do this

Small update, replaced transfer case chain, seems to stop the noise but as far as I could see the chain that came out wasn't even stretched.
What seemed like a easy swap turned out plain stupid and time consuming lol the bolts holding on the front driveshaft got rounded out, currently not running a front drive shaft till I can find some other bolts. the oil slinger seal was broke(didn't have the seal before hand since I didn't know) the rear output shaft seal turned out to be the wrong one that I had gotten, so I had to find a place that a actually had them. I also call bullshit to people who said "just buy a few of them, they're cheap" freakin $20 a piece! Lol during the time between getting the right seal, I had to reuse the old seals and run it as is since it is my only vehicle. didnt go well at all, it puked fluid like crazy, fun times!!!!
Managed to finally get the right seals in and test it out, didnt leak so woohoo!! Thought that was it but I was wrong... Day after getting it running my alternator fails miserably and took my battery out with it. Fun part was it happened 2 in the morning just as I was starting my paper route. Again, fun times!!!
So that's where I'm at, managed to tow my jeep back to my house after leAving it sit in a church parking lot for two nights :/ going to swap the alternator and battery hopefully today after I get off work. Steering is getting worse, need to swap the box soon and see if that's what's broke, my luck it'll be the pump actually lol

Well after the hang over run from January, my steering had gotten shot to hell, within the week I had found a steering box from a full size cherokee(larger fixed ratio) and planned to swap it, well its may now and I finally got the time to do it lol it was a lot easier than swapping the chain that was the truth lol, went and pulled the pitman arm off, dropped the box, added new lines to the yj box and lifted it back in and secured it. Sadly though it turned out that I had damaged both the box and pump because the steering has improved but at a stop I still can get my wheel to move, but I can say the turning is much more smoother and faster than what the stock box had. Now I just need to find a steering pump for cheap and ill be set for now

bye bye steering box

hello new ish one

Just an update of sorts,
Got a rugged ridge double shear adj. track bar from nw99xj( thanks man!) finally got my axle centered lol
Got a new ish power steering pump put on, now got full steering again and with the YJ box it is smooth and fast!
Then I got a smoking deal on 4 tires and 2 wheels for my rig, finally have some 31"s

I'll get more pics when I can(suck at taking pics and such lol)
Now I'm chasing down a possible electrical issue that's causing my tranny to act weird and such

Well update ish time lol
Found out that the little cooler in front of my jeep was indeed a tranny cooler and what I thought was my radiator was a big freakin a/c cooler lol
Went to bronzewerm to help guide me(thanks man!!)to take the front clip off to install my ford explorer tranny cooler and thank god he was there to show me a trick or two. If he hasn't shown me that the front clip didn't need to be taken off, I would have had my jeep further apart and probably break something that was important lol
Pics!

Turned out that my bumper brackets weren't stock?!

That's the upper tab, figured out if we bent it to a Z shape, it would be a snug fit whe being able to bolt it down.

All finished.
Sad part was when I realized the line going from the transmission to the cooler was kinked :-( turned out that my upper control arm had hit it and bent it. Now I need to figure out what the number or name for these hard lines are so I can either buy new or something.
Anyone know what number or names the hard lines coming from the passenger side of the transmission?

Looks like a nice upgrade, didn't realize the Explorers had such a big trans cooler on them.

I think Napa actually carries the transmission cooler hard lines. If not, the dealer should. If the area that's kinked isn't near a source of high heat you might be able to patch it by cutting it out and replacing it with a piece of trans cooler hose and two clamps. Still might be best to replace the hard lines for the long run, but could work for a temp fix so you can drive it without the transmission heating up.

BTW the part for the a/c is your a/c condenser and the bumper bracket shown looks like part of the OEM tow hook option... do you have tow hooks on your XJ?

we discussed just this alex. at the time we found the lines bent. lary had the front bumper off, hook brackets torn apart, lights, trans cooler, etc... I advised him to keep going on the install like it was. he had no troubles finishing the upgrade in time. (we figured the damage happened at the hangover run) that was a while back so I figured a couple more days on those lines would be alright. with it all buttoned up he just needs to source some factory replacement lines, rought them out of the way of the UCA, and he is done.

lary has spent some quality time with the jeep in the last few months. it really has come along way. :yelclap: keep up the good work man, your on the right path.

Bronze.

Agreed!!!!

Ya with a tight budget I'm trying my damnedest to get this jeep to where I want for right now. The most big things are the hard lines, then I want the fenders trimmed, need a set of appropriate length shocks(using the stock ones that came with it lol) and hopefully some adj. LCA

....Isnt there a cross brace yur supposed to be buying?
....coulda sworn I remember hearing something about that.....
:D

Small update, so originally this jeep came with a skid package but when I got it, it had only the T-case skid. But as most know, the skid can be a good catching point as it sits way down below the crossmember, well I had taken it off awhile ago planning to modify it like go-jeep site did. Fast forwards to last week: realized that with the up coming camp out, I needed to protect my T-case. So I bit the bullet and started cutting...

This was the mock up with getting the skid aligned next to the edge of the crossmember while positioning the square tubing in between it

Overall I'm happy with it, put in all new grade 8 bolts and nuts. It has definitely raised the skid quite a bit and should stop any hang ups.

Slight update, not really on the rig itself but the axle for the second phase of this jeep.
Since where I work now, I get the week of thanksgiving off I decided it was time to finally work ony second axle that I picked up god knows how long again lol(don't even think bronzes will remember him helping me lol)

Well working at the police academy, we get Christmas break so I used that to my advantage to work on my jeep.
Got a alignment in Keizer les swab and ill never go back there.
Picked up some leaf springs for a bastard pack and 3.5" coils from stang65.
Mounted my lights on to my brush guard, ya bright lights!
Replaced my axle U-joints and unit bearings as I was getting a thundering vibe when turning left lol

Should stop the clutter...... Should....
Changed my oil for the first time lol always got lazy and had a jiffy line do it(gave them a napa filter and got the 6th quart free). Did it myself and used T5 rotella.
Not many pics but that's what I've been up to

I recomend going to Rj Chassis Dynamics in salem there off front street for alignments and such they do good work and work on anything have a offroad background also. if Russ or Jim ask tell them I sent you. they will always try to get you a good deal. I have contact info if you want.

Why did you choose to run Rotella? Just curious.

I ran Delo400 in my 88', and it was still going strong at 290k. I've learned over the years though that the 4.0L really could care less what you put in it. It'll just end up leaking out eventually.

I'd recommend looking at running a WIX #51515 sized filter. It's significantly larger than the stock size (~1/2 quart), and threads right on.
