Pismo in late March

Who would be down for hitting Pismo at the end of March (24th-26th)?

Maybe head out on Thursday morning, be there all day Friday, and head out Saturday afternoon? A full day, two half days, two nights camping, and home in time for Easter Sunday if that is a consideration.

Wow, Phil I like how you are setting up all these fun runs. I'll try to make it there if I don't go to IL to visit my family like I'm planning to do. I 1st have to see if I can get off of work and have the time to use. Sounds like fun though. We definately have to get a JV trip in the next few months or next winter/spring.

I will be there with my 4wd club easter weekend. This would be a great chance for me to meet some of you guys. I'll keep an eye on this thread and maybe we can hook up there.

I've never been there, but I think the main thing is hitting the dunes...like a quad with stereo and A/C!

I realize it's still kinda early to get commitments, but I'd like to see who's interested.

Troy, not only is this thread not about JV, but I KNOW I'm not ready to go there and you might not be ready either.

I know it's not about JV, I hope you get a good group and have fun. I should be ready very soon, after this month with my hp44/9" and alloy axle shafts OX u-joints 5.38/5.43 gears and 37" mtrs on 8" beadlocks. This is why I built my jeep up this much, or at least to have a little more dependibility on the trails we have here in Nor Cal.

Yeah, we can have lots of fun in our XJ and not have to trailer them and store them, etc etc. that you have with a quad.

And you have a very rational fear of fire Phil. That reminds me, I need a fire extinguisher.

Phil, I will try to make it, not too far of a drive for me to make. I'll see about time off at work.

I found this picture of the last time I was at pismo. This is my dad having a little too much fun in the water.

I'm up for a weekend at Pismo. I had a blast when I was there the last time. In fact, I was also going to bring up doing an XJ weekend there. The dates you're talking about would be hard for me, I work Friday and I want to be home for Easter, so it would mean a day run on Sat for me, which I could do. If you have time off that week I can see that it could be a good time.

I'd rather plan to go a weekend that we could be there from Friday evening and come home Sunday afternoon......if we want to make it a chapter run. If there's interest in doing a trip on a weekend, I could do Apr 9-10 or May 21-22. I think we would have a great time with a bunch of XJ's there.......especially the guys with a little more power.

unsolicited comment from the peanut gallery-

i was at Pismo over both Thanksgiving and New Years weekends......extreme stoogefest to say the least. so many people.....so many people who only ride 1-2 times a year....so many people who seem to have never ridden before = muted fun for trucks out there. if you had a choice i would definitely recommend staying away from the crowded holiday extended weekends ....too many vehicles and clowns to have a real good time. also, the sand gets pretty chewed up especially with whoops at the bottom of transitions preventing needed momentum charges without major bottoming and bucking. much smoother and better all around on off weekends. love to meet you guys up there though :guitar:

unfortuneatly i have to work...
i would really like to meet some of you.
my junk is stock...will it be okay if i CAN get the days off?

Man are you always that much of a downer?. I have only been there once, and we had a blast! It was labor day weekend. wasn't bad at all.

Thanks for posting this up Phil. Easter week is tough though. I know you have a break then but since you don't schedule classes on Fridays......a long weekend would work wouldn't it? I would vote for the latter date Goatman suggested in May. Maybe I'll have it all back together by then. :laugh3:

There is plenty of fun to be had in the dunes. Last time we were there we had a blast, especially the night runs. I never knew a mound of sand could be so intimidating until you're full throttle in the dark and the only thing you can see is the star your headlights are pointing at.

What's wrong with two runs? :D

If I run my schedule right for spring quarter I might be able to swing a May run, depending on wheeling funds.

Don't go in the water!!!! your jeep will instantly turn into a block of rust! salt water is BAAAAD

Man are you always that much of a downer?

no...only when i'm trying to ruin your good time before it happens and attempting to divert people away from meeting you :pirate1: .

I have only been there once,

yes...you're vast frame of reference is very apparent to me :eyes:

and we had a blast!

no doubt i had some fun too ...but i could have done without drunks everywhere cutting us off(and me having to constantly 'dodge' everyone) , ambulances continually screaming down the beach, naked guys cartwheeling down the beach and humping beerbongs, marauding camp thieves stealing everything when your out(even with 4x the LE presence), multiple helivac extractions, and fired up rednecks arguing with you for driving over "their" piece of sand....among other things. i also love to blast bowls and the steeps without the deep whoops causing my back window to fly out repeatedly ....but that's just me

It was labor day weekend. wasn't bad at all.

since you have nothing to compare it to i'll take your assesment with a grain of salt....but i can see how it would seem "not bad at all". try to go out on an off weekend or weekday with about 1/10th of the vehicles and people, SMOOTH SAND everywhere(this is key), and the back bowls and hills basicly free and open to your whims, imagination, and nerves...and i think you might have a different perspective on how the big weekends are out there. still...if these guys end up gathereing on a busy weekend i'll be there for sure and look forward to playing some "follow the leader" with you -guranteed to break that downer guy image :peace:

Biscuitboy- stock xj would be awesome out there...just air way down. lower center of gravity is advantagious as everything is off camber

Loop, very well said.

If a bunch of you go over on Easter weekend, I might join you for a day, but I'm also not too thrilled about a holiday weekend. I would gladly work on putting a trip together on one of the weekends I mentioned. I think an XJ event at Pismo would be fun. I'm sure we could get some of the SoCal folks to come out, too.

You don't have to get your feathers all ruffled up! It's just when you chimed in on the thread it reminded me of the Debbie Downer scetch on MadTV. When i went to Pismo on Labor Day it was a circus I'll agree. Most of the idiots you mention were down on the beach by the water. The dunes weren't that crowded. That was my first time there so unfortunatly I don't have anything to compare it to. As for playing tag, I'm pretty sure I could hang with your open diffs., and 31's all day long. I am sorry if I rubbed you the wrong way, it's all fun and games right? I still look forward to meeting you guys. See you in march. PEACE!

open diffs ???? :sure: only when i want them to be :moon:

...or did someone steal my axles or something? :scared:

and a minor point- it's follow the leader.....not tag. if you saw my junk i don't think you'd want to play tag with me :laugh3:

it's all good...look forward to wheeling with you
