if i got something from this i would have no problem paying for it. why should i pay to tell people how to fix their jeep. i dont pay regular customers to work on their jeeps

C'mon guys..... This whole thread really did start on a very reasonable concept. doesn't exist on gov't grants, it isn't allowed to exist on the WWW free of charge, it exists because there's just enough enthusiasts willing to do the right thing and pay for the very valuable service this organization provides. Beyond that, doesn't just sit on the excess money. It donates to causes relevant to our hobby, it contributes toward the events enjoyed by both members and non members.

It seems that many of you frequent visitors have forgotten that this site wouldn't exist if not for it's paying members. None of the off roading / jeep related sites out there are any different. They all rely on it's membership. Where would you go to get your Tech and Mod questions answered if these sites weren't available? Where would you go to see pictures of other jeeps to get ideas from? Where would you go to join an organized group of other like-minded people and enjoy your hobby?

Do you non members REALLY think you've got the right to have all this available at your demand? That's what it's beginning to sound like. Jeezus, many of you are starting to sound like spoiled brats..... "What's in it for me?" Puhleese.

I remember Jneary telling me, I didn´t know what I was talking about awhile back, on one of the threads. Kind of invited me to get lost. Maybe he is right and maybe he is wrong, my only qualification is having kept a few Jeeps going (for 30-40 years) in a country where Jeeps were largely unknown, until around the late 80`s. Closest dealer was like 3000 miles away (in another country). Had to order filters 3 months in advance (and pray they sent the right one), have had to fab replacement parts. Still have a Ford O2 sensor, a German Ford distributor cap, a Mitsubishi starter motor and a Chev idler pulley, in one of my XJ´s. I´ve always kind of taken pride, in being as self suffienct as possible, keeping my Jeeps going on a minimum of repair parts (parts have only been widely available for the last 10 years for most American cars and trucks).

Seems if Jneary is gonna, regulate the boards, he can at least pay the dues. Not saying I don´t appreciate his help, have used some of his tips, never to proud to listen (I hope).

Next item, if anybody can figure out how I can transfer the cash, without paying $26 for the privilage, be sure to let me know. I´m just cheap to a point, but not that cheap.
Also think there should be a senior citizens discount. :moon:

Maybe i'm not involved enough in the web portion of this club. I've got less than 200 posts and have been a member for 3+ years. But, i do go to most of, if not all the s.e. chapter official rides. and i appreciate what the club does for my hobby. and how the money gets spent, also the great people i get to hang with.
I work at a Dodge dealer and do not believe we steal for a living. my techs are honest.
as to helping people on the O.E. board, I stopped helping after psuedo mechanics kept telling me i am wrong. and, after giving suggestions as to how to diagnose a problem i kept getting remarks to the effect of: i'm gonna just throw a (insert part name here) and see what happens. I as a mechanic can't do that because if I'm wrong it comes out of my pocket. not yours. and i can't afford to fix my personal vehicles by just shotgunning parts. then I couldn't afford my hobbies.
as to j if you can answer their questions thats great. if you don't want to join thats fine. if you don't wheel anywhere other than the web that's just sad man.

With all due respect to you and Charter Members ... I would probably get my advice from the same places I did before the internet existed. I owned and lifted my XJ way before these sites were a thought ... or the technology was available---I seemed to manage.

I may be mistaken, but I don't think it's the intent of to pressure casual participants into a membership after reaching certain "posting" thresholds. If membership is a goal, then it should be stated via notice upon offering the free registration to peruse and post on this site.

I appreciate the time and effort of those that have generated the kind of commodore that has made this a great site to visit ... or an organization to be affiliated with. With that said, I believe that can continue without alienating casual participants that have brought value with or without membership.
