Outlook question

I've switched from Outlook Express to Outlook on my home machine and while I am altogether happy with the switch, I did find a little quirk that is annoying. When I get an email (for example a thread reply message) with a link in it, Outlook always opens a link clicked in a NEW window, while OE used to open the link in the window that it opened the prior link in. Is there a setting that I've missed?

Mine always has done that. I looked in the options menu but with no luck...
Could it be an IE option?

That a really quick way to get your machine infected big time. Download thunderbird and use that. Unless you are really wedded to outlook it is just a disaster waiting to happen or untill the next exploit is written... The flip side is that you will have some really good opportunites to improve your reinstallation techniques....:no smiley either:
There is a setting in outlook to stop auto open but it has been so long since I have set it because of my aversion to O and OE I don't remember..it is there though.

You are too quick, I ammended my posting, the setting is there but I don't remember where and I'm not going to install it to find it.

Modern versions of Outlook are just fine. Most that are afraid are too stuck on the older versions and their poor history.

But what you describe is how it has always worked for me.... I guess I am just used to it? :) Not sure if that can be changed... or if that is really a good idea. I have many, many browser windows open, so it is handy it opens links in new windows.

...not being a smartazz, just trying to make sure i've got a good understanding of what you're saying...

so when you get an email with a url to a webpage, it is opening up internet explorer to display the page?

if that's what you're saying, that's the way outlook has done it for a while and still to this day. outlook is for reading emails, so it uses ie to surf the web.

or did i not understand your issue?

Yes and no :D When I get an email which has a link it opns a new IE window (so far so good). Then it gets another email with another link and it opens yet ANOTHER IE window (even though the first one is still opened). OE on the other hand used to keep reloading the links into that "first" window.
