One-a-month for 2010!

I don't normally post on NAXJA but I've read enough stuff here to get me by (my build - http://www.cherokeetalk.com/forum/f26/just-another-lcg-xj-35s-3392/) so I thought I'd post this up here also...

I'm generally not a New Years resolution guy but this year I've decided to promote the sport of offroading the best way I can - by joining a club, organization, etc. I've actually been thinking about this for quite a while and after a few conversations with some people I know I decided I'd better join a few clubs, etc. and after giving it some more thought I came up with this little challenge....

I'm going to join 1 offroad club, association, organization, etc. per month, for 2010! That's 12 total associations!

I know I could just join 12 right off the bat but I figured doing it this way may bring more attention to it, keep me out of trouble with the better half, make the excitement last all year(!) and hopefully get more people to follow along...

So my challenge is - who's going to keep up? Obviously we're a little late for January but that's ok, if you want to join two in February that's ok with me, or if you joined one in the last two months that's ok also.

I'll keep a running tab of the clubs I join below.

January - Blue Ribbon Coalition!
February - Idaho 4x4 Association (I'm from Idaho - forms are filled out, will hand them in when I get back in town)

I'm also going to post this on all the forums I belong to and put some links in my signature...

So who's going to keep up...

NAXJA is a club first, and a forum second. A good amount of the membership fees are redistributed to various 4wd causes nation wide.

Just saying.... ;)

Including the BRC, if you ask the BRC about NAXJA they will probably say good things ;)

Speaking of I need to re-up my Cal4wheel membership.

Roger the club first, forum second.

I'm sure I'll join a forum or two in 2010 but I'm kind of holding off for now and saving it for a rainy day. My goal is to join a few local/national associations (BRC, Idaho 4x4 Association) for the first few months while I finish up my XJ then I can hit some trail runs and start joining some local clubs - if that fails then I'll look at what each forum does for the offroad community and go from there. Towards the end of the year I'm going to look at one or two regional associations/clubs in other parts of the country like the SE or NE etc.

NAXJA has donated tens of thousands to land use orgs of various types over the last couple of years.

Your membership dues make that possible. Although we have a great forumsite. NAXJA is NOT a forum site. It is a club.

I didn't notice where you were from but I know here in the Intermountain chapter we try hard to donate as much as we can to Utah 4wheel drive assn and others.

I guess my point is, your money is just as well spent here as it is with other clubs.

As previously mentioned I don't usually post here which means I don't hang out that much. I've found a couple of builds I like to follow along with some cage building threads. That being said - I assumed NAXJA was no different than any other forum - thanks for changing my view on that and with some luck any newbies in the future will see this thread and make them realize what NAXJA does.

I'll be joining NAXJA in March!

Now...who's going to join another club, association, etc...!

Here's a few of them...

Blue Ribbon Coalition

Tread Lightly

PUblic Lands for the People - This is a new one to me - thanks WLDWUN from Pirate4x4 for pointing it out!
http://www.plp2.org/

P.s. - I'm from Meridian, ID

I already belong to BRC and Tread Lightly. I'll definitely look into the Public Lands for the People one though.

Awesome, after you look into them let me know what you think. I briefly looked at their page but they seemed like a pretty decent association.

I was at the Carnegie Freedom Ride Rally in December; I meet Del Albright there when he saw my NAXJA sticker he became very excited and told me that NAXJA really was doing a lot to support Blue Ribbon Collation. Then he thanked me for helping out.
I like your ideal of one a month I suggested at my club meeting.
I am very glad you are getting involved and encouraging other. Everyone needs to get organized so that we can win this battle to keep our trails open.

Hey thanks for mentioning this at your club meeting, that's a way to get the word out.

One thing I plan on focusing on in the future is to promote our sport to those that aren't normally in the loop i.e. the weekend camper, the new FJ40 owners, the new JK owners, etc. Posting stuff on forums like this is a great way to get the word out but let's face it - only offraod enthusiasts are going to frequent the forums. Sometime this year (spring or early summer) I plan on figuring out a way to get the word out to others.

Stay tuned for that...

I'll definitely look into the Public Lands for the People one though.

PLP is geared more toward the mining industry, though they claim to support all outdoor recreational access to public lands. I didn't join, but I did make a $20 donation just because I agree with most of their ideals.

Here is my current list;
Wandering Wheelers Jeep Club
Cal4Wheel
California Off-Road Vehicle Association
United Four Wheel Drive Associations
Blue Ribbon Coalition
National Off-Road Association
North American XJ Association
Americans for Responsible Recrational Access
Rubicon Trail Foundation
Stewards Of The Sequoia
Access Army
Pirate 4X4

I like this idea.
Although I am only a member of a couple of land access organizations, I have spent time promoting and helping fund a few others.

Right now the list would be short;

NAXJA
FOJV (Friends of Johnson Valley)
PFJV (Partnership for Johnson Valley)

Promoted organzations would be a much longer list.

Nice! I may look into one or two of those -

Johnson Vally (and the Rubicon Trail) are two that I'll be looking at a little later down the road.

Thanks fellas - let's keep up the good work and get the word out!

We're getting close to the end of the month jakeWI - did you figure out which club to join for February? I handed my stuff off the other day for the Idaho 4x4 Associaion. Next month is Naxja then probably TreadLightly for April.
