Oct 8th, Evans Creek

Seems that getting home was the hardest part...John's (Avanteone) trailer blew two tires...I'll let him tell the story.

Thanks for the chance to meet you guys, some for the second time. I enjoyed putting faces with names. Especially GI John, since we've been talking on and off for 3+ years...never having formally met. If I'm ever stranded and down to my last meal, I'll think of you when I break into my MRE. ;)

Thanks again,

John

Looks like you had a real good time! :) What trails did you take?

We ran the 102, the 198, some of us went into 197 while the others stayed on 198. Met at the intersection of 198 and 520. Some of us ran 520 UP to the log pile, and others ran 520 back down towards the campground.

John

Then a few of us met at the log pile after you two (Avanteone, John90xj) left and a few of us ran down 311.

By the way it was great meeting you guys. Thanks for showing us around.

Great pics, wish I could of got the day off to go.

Matt: Guess you didn't have that cooling problem yesterday.

Mark

Yeah, staying cool was less of a problem then staying dry. Still, despite several attempts to get me to go swimming (Scott!), I never got wet. I drove the Jeep today, and I still had to roll up my pant legs!

Oh well, no harm no foul. At least I wasn't the only dumbass who broke their rig. We had to do a on trail U-joint replacement on Mark's (2xtreme's brother and non NAXJA member) cherokee after getting hung up on the log pile. At the top of a wind-blown ridge. As the temp plummeted 20 degrees. While it was hailing. That was fun.

All in all, a great time was had by all: Sniggs FINALLY did some body damage, Hans STILL hasn't done any (right, Hans?), GI-John was able to watch a flop from the the other side, Michael yet again demonstrated that skill can overcome open diffs (well, mostly anyway), and I learned to put it in 4WD and invest in a snorkel before attempting to ford lake Michigan sized puddles.

Good Turn-out too! By my count it was 9 XJs of various ilk, 1 bad-ass Rubicon, and a '85 Straight Axle 4Runner.

I can't wait till next time!

oh man! that looks the way mine did after matt dragged me through some puddles at nwfest! well, it was just one puddle and it's not like he put a gun to my head. regardless, my carpet is still quite ugly, although dry.

Again thank you all for a wonderful day of wheeling!!

Several comments about this trip that I must state for the record:
1. My brother (Marc) really appreciats all the spare parts and help he got on this trip:)
2. John and John, it was wonderful to meet and wheel with you both, I appreciate your experience and understanding greatly.
3. Matt, you might want to spray WD-40 over the alternator for the next couple of days. You might also want to starting looking for a new Altinator and/or starter in the near future (statitstically speeking it is likely at least one of them will fail in the not too distant future). I wish you luck and can't wait to see you on the trail again soon.
4. John (Avanteone), Part of my reasoning to make my rig trailered was to make the drive home easier, maybe I should reconsider:)
5. Apparantly Truck Nutz not only do not make you more of a MAN, they also suck any inteligance that you might have had to start with completley out of you.
6. I have zero tolerance for complete stupidity. The group in the samaris are all lucky none of them died on Saturday!! People like this need to be kept off of our trails, they are a hazard to themselves and others!!
7. The guy in the quad (that almost did 50+ mph into my front bumper and winch without a helmet) is still cleaning out his shorts and is looking for a helmet at the store right now.
8. I REALLY enjoy wheeling with you guys!!!!!!!!
9. Thanks for a great trip

Michael

Michael

I had fun as well, glad to put names with some faces.

I think I've got my issues with my trailer figured out. This trailer is new to me (I traded my 16ft wood deck for this 18ft steel deck, dove tail) and I think I figured out why he was so anxious to get rid of it.... I believe it was overloaded at some point and the axles are bent, the rear pretty badly. It is scuffing the insides of the tires off and two flats were in the bald area. I plugged one, then wasted another tire, ran down to les schwab and bought a replacement, then made it to Bonney lake where I had another blowout on the tire that I had plugged earlier. It had probably gone low and then overheated. Anyways, a new pair of axles and 4 new tires are in order. I made it home just about 8pm.

Anyways, thanks for letting us tag along, I'm sure I'll see you guys on the trail again sometime.

John
