I noticed that there are alot of users on here that are into mtb/downhill so I figured I would start a thread dedicated to trip reports, trail conditions, tech, pics, etc.

Ill start. I have an 04' intense with marz forks, shimano saint and raceface comps, and 5th element rear shock. It is a pretty nice setup right now but I have been bottoming out alot.

Northstar Trip: The girls didnt want to hike the trails to take pictures of the runs so the pics are mainly around the lift (lame). The trails are reaaaaally fast and the jumps on livewire had alot of flow and the drops on boondocks were 8 feet plus. No major injuries but I did get bucked over the bars and into a rock when I cased one of the many doubles on livewire.

In the village with the gf

Getting on the lift for livewire and boondocks which are the 2 best at Star IMHO

My buddies GF getting ready to ride his bike down to the parking lot for him because he thought he broke his wrist. (found out today it was just a severe sprain but it swelled up really well)

All in all a good day of riding. Perfect weather...... as far as difficulty I would give livewire an 8/10 and boondocks a 9/10. Northstar has plenty of trails for every level of rider so any type of mountain bike would be cool. Tickets run 40 bucks for an all day pass and they are worth it.....

More trails and riders to come hopefully!

Awesome idea, I ride an old Santa cruz supper 8 not as crazy as most of the downhill bikes but gets the job done without issues. Went to northstar last year and it is awesome hope to get down there some time this year also. Here are some pics.

Both of these were taken at some place in santa cruz my friend calles Demo (not shure of the real name but awesome)

I always wanted to try the ski runs on a MTB, looks like a blast. Cool pics man.

Just got the new fox 40 rc2's on the front and they are by far the most burly forks on the market..... insane pricetag but you really do get what you pay for. Going to northstar again tomorrow so I will have my final review when Im done breaking them in. 8" of travel with external preload and rebound, as well has low speed and highspeed compression adjustment. Awesome.

Now I have no use for these two forks. One is a single crown marzocchi bomber with external compression and rebound adjustment, the other is a dual crown foes inverted fork with a hydro brake setup, 30mm hub and sun rimset. Both forks have seven inches of travel. If you or anybody you know is looking to upgrade Im going to let these go cheap to make room in the garage. The bomber was about 700, ill take 250. The foes was about 1200 but it does have a scuff on the lowers so ill take 200 and throw in the hydro brake and disk, as well as the rim and hub since they are set.

These forks would be perfect for and dh/ freestyle bike.... or an xc bike that needs a boost in travel.

More pics of nstar to come.

Hows that compare to mine i think i have a Fox 303 on mine unsure of travel. It came on my Yeti new

Fox doesn't make a 303.... they make a 30 which is their line of xc forks... probably about 3" to 4" of travel. The 303 code is yeti's older dh frame, I think it came out about 2002.

The fox 40 is the best fork on the market right now, I was just lucky enough to get a killer deal on it. The fox 40 retails for about 1600 bucks.

Thats why i ask cuz i couldnt remember mine was built in 2005 and its an ASX with the free ride setup i know it has fox socks front and rear and they were new for 2005. Im not an expert on bikes. Know more about Jeeps and alot about old ford trucks but were talking bikes so sorry

Did my research rear is fox dhx 5.0. The front is a fox 36 van rc2 6 inches of travel and i was wrong bike was made in 2006 and so where the shocks

Thats a really nice rear shock you got there.... they dont make em much better than the 5.0

The 36 and the marz 66 that Im trying to get rid of are pretty much the same shock. Both are very nice, really plush too.

Yeah maybe i should give it you would probaly get more use. ha Yeah my bosses Yeti which is older that mine had a marz 66 i like both mine need to take them out and see what they can do probably go to mount hood and try it out.

My XC bike is a DBR set up with skreb fork, xtr, when it was set up to race it weighed out at 28 lbs... not bad for a full suspension bike w/ no carbon fiber.

My DH bike is a unbuilt Tomac 204 with a travis fork. Since I stopped racing and lost all the sponcerships I cant really afford to really build it right.

Right now im stuck on a beach cruiser to get around on, but im thinking of bring my xc bike up here to chico, im just soo paranoid it would get stolen, and it would be hard keeping it in my room.

You DO NOT leave your bikes outside here in chico.... they will get stolen in a heartbeat. Especially ones that were not purchased at walmart, but even then they probably would.

Going to northstrar again tomorrow if anybody is going to be up there pm me. Hopefully no broken bones this time......
I wanted to go to Northstar this summer. Unfortunately, time didnt allow for it. :rattle:

They still rent bikes up there, right? Last time I went, my XC bike didnt like the drop offs:shhh:

hey downhillracer, i think i saw you, your buddy and both those girlies at donner lake a few weeks ago. I was at a dock fishing with my buddies and you guys (possibly you) pulled up to the dock next to us in a truck with both of those intenses in the bed. Had i realized you had those bikes while you were at the dock next to us i would have hollard at ya. Didn't see em untill we where leaving.

I too like to fly off of things on me bike

Its an older set up, but its got gobbs of travel and feels damn sturdy dropping off shit and the disco volante is one of the best dh frames built imo.
