New Metallica sounds promising...

I'm not impressed with the two new songs I've heard- sounds like the same wimpy garbage as Load, Reload, and St. Anger.I've been a fan since Kill 'Em All was released and IMO they've lost their edge/balls/drive beginning with the "Black" album.:thumbdn: :thumbdn: :thumbdn:

Been into them for ever (even James & Cliff's band before Metallica, Spastic Children) but I have to say they lost it starting with Injustice, that album had great riffs but the solos were crap (even Kirk admits this in an interview) after that I gave up on them, although the solos were a bit better on the black album, the riffs sucked! lol

It all went downhill after that when they hemmed their shirts and got haircuts... lol

I don't think load and reload are that bad, but St. Anger pisses me off, what a let down! It's like they tried to go back to the "edgy" days of RTL and MOP, but with the speed of a turtle (or black album in their case).

I appreciate the black album because they slowed down and really thought about how their music should be pieced together. The solo's were awesome...

But anyways, didn't like this new song, it's like someone gave them an angsty teenager pill! I don't care that it speeds up and has some cool soloing, I wouldn't listen to the rest of the song just for that! I need to hear a fast and furious (or what ever we can get out of them) song before I can pass final judgement on whether I'll buy it or not...

AW HELL!! Why did you have to post this thread. I've been excited ever since I heard they were gona make something that sounds like the good old days.
After hearing that crap I know it's over.
His vocals changed when he cut his hair. They're all trying too hard. You can hear it in every one of Kirks licks.
It's like the couple of Black Sabbath albums after Ozzy left (although I liked the Dio album).

I guess I just saved a few bucks at the record store lol.

Cliff was Metallica, they've been a shadow ever since he died (Justice was starting downhill, Black was continuting downhill, and with Load they were dead). They'll never return, continue listening to your old alubms.

I hear you guys, but I guess for what it is, it's okay. I'm also a huge Pink Floyd fan, with Wish You Were Here as my favorite. Do I hate "newer" Floyd like Momentary Lapse of Reason or Division Bell because it doesn't have Roger on it?
I was one of Metallica's biggest fans until Load came out and things got weird. I guess maybe I'm just getting old...36 and mellowed out and open to any new music that has a metal tinge.

I agree with you for the most part. Times do change, but not overnight like they did. I know they were headed in that direction with And Justice... and I liked black for what it was but who would have guessed they would have taken it in a whole different direction over night?

They did it for the money..PERIOD! They thought the times were changing so they wanted to change with them so they could sell records to the new generations. They lost faith in the metal crowd and in metal in general.

In my opinion James is the biggest baby of them all. Great, he quit the drugs and alcohol but he lost himself in the process. Poor management if you ask me.

I could almost stand to listen to the newer stuff if it wasn't for his over drawn singing and gay lyrics. It makes me cringe.

The only reason they didn't "burn out" is because they know who they are and they know they'll continue to sell records because of it.
Money has always been the main objective. They got it and lost the hunger.

This is all my opinion.:worship:

Well, love them or hate them(I love them), one thing is for sure and that is they can not be touched live. Best live band on the planet. Nine Inch Nails is a close second.

i was the same way, die hard metallica fan, then the black album came out. i said "ok... this is kinda cool i guess...". then "Load" came out and i said "yep, thats what it is, a Load of CRAP" i was so dissapointed with that album i hid all my old Metallica concert t-shirts.... then they sued thier FANS not the people who distributed the music, but the people who HAD it. all Metallica cds and shirts and videos and such went into a box in the garage, and hasnt been touched since just before "Reload" came out. in the words of the Godfather... "you're dead to me."

I diagree.

Saw them in '97 and there were okay. Not bad, just okay. For metal Black Sabbath (lead by Ozzy) is MUCH better.

Um, they have been BUTCHERING their early stuff live for YEARS

Absolutely horrible, seeing them try to play MOP now is just sad

I think it's funny how everyone expects a band to continue to play the same thing. The is they do they are unoriginal and bland. If they change and do other stuff then they have sold out and suck.

Nothing stay the same and I see no reason a band has to play the same style of music for 30 years. If they want to change and play different stuff that's their business. It's their music.

As for the newer stuff I like it and I still rock Kill em All.

And no sense in whining about Burton, he's dead. Even if he wasn't he would have changed just like the rest of the band did.

And Lars like or hate him has some awesome chops.

It was their own attitude/morals that they went against, "kill 'em all! kill the record companies!" yeah ok James. Whether you like them or not they are NOT Metallica anymore. It's funny too because all the people that liked them then, hate them now, and all the people that hated them then, love them now...

The CLASH could kick their ARSE !!!

Syd Barrat (sp?) rocked. But I also like Rodger, to put it simply Pink Floyd is one of the best bands ever. Instrumentally, vocally and performance wise. I have many of thier CD's and I agree there is a difference between Atom Heart Mother and the new recordings on Pulse, but they did not go down hill like Metallica did. I rank them with Def Lepard, they were great in their time, but they need to go away now and for the love of God take Mick Jagger with them.

I do love 99.999% of Floyd but if I hear "Money" one more time someone will die!!! :D

And punk kids grow up and attitudes change. Rock stars don't live in Never never land with Captain Hook.

I hate doing the same thing all the time and like to try new stuff, I would imagine they are the same way.

I liked them then and like them now.
