New Metallica sounds promising...

Ah, but there are plenty that do, in all types of music.
It would be interesting to see some numbers based on record sales between then and now.

I would choose Led Zeppelin over Floyd any day

Led Zep and Floyd are in two completely different worlds and Led Zep doesn't hold a candle to Floyd. Musicality and performance wise, there are few that compare to old school Floyd. To me Led Zep represents the American protesting hippy movement, while Floyd is all about emotion and battling with one's self. Floyd's music has Soul and heart

However, in another caliber of their own, there are few that compare to old school Metallica.

BAH! Yet another over rated, boring ass band that people worship for unknown reasons...just like the Ramones, Nirvana, etc. :puke:

An English bad represents the American protesting hippy movement? I don't follow. To each his own I guess.

I thought this new metallica sounded pretty good, havent listened to them really since I saw them at summer sanitarium back in 03, today I put on the master of puppets album...I forgot how good they were. This stuff by far doesnt compare at all, not even the same class really, its still not bad, but old metallica is just that, old, you probably wont ever hear that sound on a new album again.

That is why the statement was prefaced with "To me...". Led Zep was a band that was made popular during the Veitnam era by the Peace and Love generation. Most of their following at that time in my opinion was the protestors (Woodstock) and I do not agree with them or what they stood for.

However, once again, in my opinion, Floyd was a band that sang true the their experiences and their music had soul. They represented the troubled youth of England or America for that matter. One who has ever has inner demons and had to do battle against what they knew was right and what their mind was telling them to do. In a time when most bands were singing about drugs, sex, hallucinations, anti war crap and so on, Pink Floyd was singing from the heart to the heart.

Like you said to each his own, but I did not mean that Led Zep was singing to America. I do think Led Zep had some good songs and were a good band, but in comparison, they paled next to Pink Floyd.

I hate doing the same thing all the time and like to try new stuff, I would imagine they are the same way.

I liked them then and like them now.

What they did as far as how much they changed is like the Backstreet Boys coming out with a death metal album

They should have changed the name of the band, they are the unforgiven...

I find it amusing that someone who wasn't around during the 70's or had the opportunity to see them live (I have twice in their prime) would say Led Zep sucked. They had nothing to do with "the hippies", they are a blues based band, with mystical curiosity influencing their music, and love of a good romp in the hay! Listen to their albums up to and including Presence, and you will hear incredible musician's. Pink Floyd was awesome live and in the studio as well.

There is nothing wrong with Zep

Are you special, a savant or do I need to write in smaller words? How many times do I have to write "To Me..." It's my opion and it has absolutely nothing to do with how old I am or where I've been...It's my opinion, I'm sorry that you are only reading what you want to. By the way, I never said that Zep sucked. If I recall, I actually said they were a pretty good band, but in comparison to Floyd they pale. Is that too hard to understand?

Metallica IS DEAD...................WAS a big fan, seen them 4 times but they do nothing for me now......oh well!! Music is a personal experience and saying one band sucks and another is great is pointless unless you are talking to yourself..........

Joey Ramone could beat the shit outta Metallica.

At least Joey never sold out...

Sorry if I missinterpreted what you were trying to convey, I was not trying to be disrespectful, when I read it I was amused. No, not special, but I can speak in complete sentences! :laugh3: And have been pretty fortunate to see many bands including Pink Floyd and Zep and the original Lynryd Skynyrd who on 07/04/76 in Oakland, were the best live band I ever saw, no flash, just powerful rock 'n' roll! Floyds "Wall" tour in LA, pretty awesome. Check out the DVD of Roger Waters doing the wall at Berlin it's inspiring.
