One of my best friends used to live here in Utah and just moved to California trying to get back on his feet going through a Job loss and divorce. He has a 95 grand Cherokee that the transfer case needs to be replaced in. If he can find one is there anyone in this area that could help him out. I would just fix it for him. (he will buy all the parts) But he cant get it back here to Utah.

He lives in Walnut Creek. If anyone can help please let me know terms and conditions.

Sorry i thought we were talking bout XJ i dont think my case will work at all in a grand cherokee but if he needs a hand. Also my friend told me about a few grand cherokees at the Fremont pick and pull and i think one of them was a 94. It caugh unfire and i think i was pretty complete. So if that helps at all.

Around 15-20 miles per hour there is a popping that is occurring and now it sounds as if the chain is catching on the gears. The lever also keeps popping out of the full time 4 wheel drive. My guess is that it could be rebuilt but he does not have the mechanical knowledge to do so. If he could find a replacement that would bolt on it would be nice if someone could even just supervise him to make sure he does not screw anything up.

His name is Ken Panza 1-801-927-7320

If you want to call him and set up a time to meet up with him that would be awesome if you could look at it for him. Or PM me your number and I will have him call you and work something out. I really appreciate the quick help.

I dont know bout that i get in and out of a lot Jeeps seems to me the cherokees have full time and part time and the Grands only have full time. So they can only switch to low from high. Where the cherokees can switch from 2 wheel drive to full time high to part time high to part time low. So i think its totally diffrent. But who knows for sure and can tell me im full of BS :wow:

what about low does it have problems in low gear as well or only high. Does anyone on here have one of these cases. And if so how much. Also check the Karma Thread and maybe someone will part with one or give one away. Or it will be a pick and pull special.I was gonna put on my rock sliders Sat but could lend a hand Sunday. Im no expert but i did install my own transfer case on my XJ. And would be willing to lend a fellow Jeep owner a hand

I think that the problem is only in high gear. And I am only guessing based on the interpretation of the sounds he is telling me about. I suggested he find one in a junk yard and swap it, just needs help to do it. I would even try to locate him one, but I dont know California and dont know what is close or worth going to out there. I posted his phone number above and he doesnt mind direct contact. I appriciate all of the help from everyone. This is why I am a part of NAXJA.

Theres a guy on craigslist selling 249transfer case wantes 500.00 seems steep but maybe call him and low ball him its under Jeeps SF Bay Area . Also theres a huge Jeep junk yard in Sacremento CA should have one there I think the name on the yard is LQK. not posative. I also called Ken and left him a message.

Ive been looking on craigslist there are more than 3 places to pickup Grand Cherokee parts on the first 2 pages. If he picks one up im sure we can get one installed

wait i know you can either swap a 242 or 231 over to the zj's....which is it?
has he tried to pull the front shaft off for a bit and check his linkage?
i think its a 242 that will swap in right that will actually bolt up...
anyway id be down to help where is he located?
im busy alot now so he'd have to buy the case and bring it here but id make sure it got in there in one piece in a few hours max...

I called and gave him the number for the 249 on craigs list he is trying to find the money for it but the craigs list guy has not called him back yet. I really think that would be the best option to tear that one out and replace it with that other 249.

He said he will call you as soon as he finds out if he can pick that transfer case up.
