Some questions:

When are you coming out?
At night it's dropping below freezing.
You might even get snow - Come prepared.

Are you planning on staying in a tent, or do you need a recommendation for a cabin somewhere?
Or do you have a camping trailer of some sort?

Also: I highly recommend Charles Wells' books on Colorado trails. Great info. on the trails and they are divided up by area so you can plan your trip well.

it will be sometime in late jan. early feb. for a few days, i wouldnt mind sleeping in a tent, im an eaglescout and lived in the springs for 6 years before moving here, she would like a cabin i wouldnt mind it, also ill pick up that book, depending on what weekend it is ill let everyone know so if anyone wants to put together a small trail ride that'd be cool.
thanks

When you come I would sugest going to the bv area. You should see some real mountains not just the front range. On the way to BV on hwy 24 you will go over wilkerson pass, which is beautifull. Also MT.Princeton natural hot springs is awesome when it is snowing.

January/February can run anywhere from the 60's along the front range to -30. As you go higher, the temps drop radically. Very few trails are open in the winter. Old Chinamans Gulch tends to stay open and some along the lower front range, but the pickings are kind of slim.

Snow is fine guys just cause i live in kansas dosnt mean i dont know what snow is, lol. ill have to figure out the exact date, mabey i can convince the fiancee to go snow caving with me!!! yea right. thanks for the help guys

I'm from the Springs and there are lots of trails. Some of my favorites are Mt. Baldy, Eagle Rock, and Saran Wrap. I think these trails are on traildamage.com somewhere so you can research them.

But in the winter Eagle Rock and Saran Wrap are not doable. (they never close, but they are just too extreme of a trail to try in snow/ice)

Mt. Baldy is not too bad though.

But I've got to give you some advice about wheeling in the snow in these areas, all of which I have learned the hard way about.

-drive a total of two 4x4 vehicles (one in addition to your jeep), make one your wheeling vehicle, and one your camp vehicle, this way if you ever get stuck/disabled in one you can at least walk back to camp get the other vehicle to pull the other one out
-of the two vehicles you bring, one should have a fairly powerful (8k-12k capacity) winch (that is maintained!!!!)
-shovel
-2 recovery straps, not tow straps! tow straps stretch and fail too easily.
-M+S rated tires (the RMA mountain snowflake symbol on the sidewall is even better)
-snow chains (they make a world of difference on icy trails/deep snow)
-common sense (don't leave you head at home)

That being said, I leave the rest up to your scouting abilities....I'm an Eagle too.
