Need new tires and advice

Ya I found my 35s for $700 with rims balanced and 20/32 on all 4. New had 21/32.
Tons of deals on 33s

Living out in the countryside as I do finding things that you don't have to drive 2 hours to look at is hard. As you know it is hard to get out here.

OK, I changed my mind.............again.

I am going with Goodyear Duratrac MTR's. Most of you like these tires and had a lot of good things to say so I decided to go with these.

Cut the fenders on the front so the new tires will fit. A little scary but I went conservative so I feel fine about it until a get new flares.

Question: the boot on my front shocks were ripped so I took them off. Any problem with just leaving them off or should I replace them?

Haven't used mine but I went with duratracs for the overall performance that they provide. Lots of good reviews in a variety of conditions and terrain if you do a search on them. Some do complain of thin sidewalls but I don't mind watching tire placement a little more carefully or not airing down as much. There are bad reviews on the MTR-K as well and every other tire out there. Do your research and get an overall impression on others reviews, then make your decision on a tire that fits your needs.

Most race/2.0+ shocks do not have boots. I wouldn't worry about it. IF you don't see a lot of mud or water crossings, don't worry at all. IF you encounter these, wipe them down afterwards.

afaik the duratracs don't have kevlar sidewalls.
Duratrac's do have Kevlar, but have the "thin" sidewalls.
The Kelly Safari TSR, very similar to the Duratrac, does not have Kevlar.

Iv heard really good things about the new KO2s, but the smallest rim size is 16in :(

I personally was torn between the kevlars and km2s, but then everyone in my area couldn't get the kevlars for 3 months so I went wight the km2s. I DD them and they arnt noisy and stop well. If you dont want something quite as knobby, id say go with the KOs. My buddy has them on his raptor and we have hit 100+ with no issues from them, and the sidewalls feel stiff on mountain roads. We have also done some wheeling on them and they hook up well!

As for size, go 12.5. The few times you do off road you will like the extra bite.
We have a March and April launch of more KO2 sizes. Double check with a dealer on dates for your size. I know we have at least 8 new sizes we are currently building.

Yeah, I got confused. I thought that the Duratrac was MTR's without Kevlar. Wrong???

What do you think?

As mentioned before, they are two different tires.

MTR or DuraTrac.

Might be apples or oranges, but the DuraTracs are an awesome tire out here in CO. Not sure it even rains in California anymore, so snow performance might not be an issue, but they do awesome in ice and snow.

I had a set on my Grand Cherokee, loved them enough to be putting them on my new truck in a couple months. Certainly not an MTR, but onroad performance for me was more important than trail. (I dont offroad, only web wheel, so this might not apply to you!)

I went with them on the MJ because I ended up getting 3 good used ones for under 100$ and one brand new one for 220$ shipped . Ive read good reviews on the snow.

Is the kevlar sidewall part true?

My issue with Duratracs is they are super soft and wear quickly. If you load up heavy, they get squirly on the highway as well.

I'd still be pointing you toward BFG AT's or look at Falken Wildpeaks.

And I'd look at going to 17's. You can pickup 17" steel wheels for about $60 each if you shop around.

Duratrac's are not MTR-K without the K

Yes, they do have kevlar. When I checked tire prices at my local Goodyear tire store (what a joke price wise, but the guys there know their stuff) , The manager who looked up tires for me specifically told me that other than slight tread differences that the DT has kevlar and the Kelly Safari TSR does not. That may be partially why they are cheaper? I dunno.

Are people all moving to 17's now? I have a set of JK moabs I could use on my rig, but tire costs are higher. (I run 16 inch moabs now.)

Apparently all the cool kids are going to 17s. I took a look on tire rack last night. The cheapest 37x17 tire was literally double the price i paid for my current 35s. A bit frustrating but the times are changing. Ill probably end up going h1s and using surplus tire as im cheap.

Not being a cool kid I say if you like the looks that's fine but........ not as much room between the rim and the tread especially when aired down seems counter intuitive. :dunce:
I mean why not go 30" rims with five inches of sidewall? Kick it up Dawg!

17"s have their ups and downs.

the auto mfg industry is moving that way with larger vehicles, and the 15" tire selection is dwindling.

If I were buying wheels right now they would be 17" so I could fit a 17" brake kit.
