I need to make a drag link and need 1 left and 1 right hand thread 7/8" x 18 threaded bungs and jam nuts. I just went to McKenzies, but they only have 16 pitch.

Or...need a local shop who can make a drag link tube for me with threads cut into the DOM.

Anybody got recommendations? I'd like to have it this weekend so I can do my WJ brake swap.

Hey Jon, I use Bob's Welding in Anaheim (Katella and East IIRC) for machine shop service. Check with Brian (the new Bob) to see if he can pump it out for you. Good guy and does very good work.

OR, I've had great success with TnT Customs, fast turn and overnight shipping that didn't arrive overnight. Great people and quality work, but out of state.

Thanks Grant. I called Bob's Welding, he doesn't the correct taps but was going to check his local sources for the threaded inserts and jam nuts, so I'll call him back tomorrow.

A few places to try for threaded inserts that are local and not so local but driving distance...

Mcfadden-dale - anaheim
off-road warehouse - escondildo
(GREAT GUY) rockbuggysupply.com - 951-926-1142
schorr metal - anaheim

I am sure theres alot more others out there but thats my main sources..

ORW has them on the shelf usually. ironicly the mfg is like right around the corner from them.
wait a minute... 7/8" x 18? shouldn't it be 7/8" x 14?
thats either a 1-3/8" x .120" wall tube or 1-1/4" x .120" wall tube. thats a real big drag link :wow:

7/8-18 is the thread for the 1 ton tie rod ends. I got my setup from Parts Mike and it usually takes a few days since he is in N. CA. Check www.PartsMikeParts.com. He uses 1-1/8 .188 wall that is tapped, not a weld in bung.

I got the inserts and jam nuts from Blaine, a local TJ guy that Rollins hooked me up with. Blaine is the expert on WJ or other big brake swaps. RIght after I struck out at McKenzies, I went to McFadden-Dale, but they only have stuff for rod ends (3/4x16).

Ryan, your makin me feel self concious about the Dirk Diggler sized drag link that'll be hangin under my heep...the DOM is 1.5x.25
The ends are standard chevy 60 degree misalignment DLE's(moog# es2026 & 27) with 7/8x18 threads.
Tie rod is also 1.5" DOM, but with dodge TRE's (es2847 & 48) that have 3/4x16 threads.

yeah, I saw that. I was just baffled not finding a tap for that thread pitch. but I guess I didn't look hard enough.
OK Dirk dingler :laugh3: at least it will never wear out!

What brakes and axle are you running? Is this for inverted-t?

d30 with Warn axles and hubs, WJ knuckles and calipers, steering will be a crossover setup.

Similar to THIS? The will have to watch clearance issues between the tie rod and the diff cover and the passenger spring bucket with the straight tie rod. Also since the tre's are a larger dimameter they are pretty close to the rotor so watch that as well. Just an fyi.
