Need help from people in Charleston, SC

So, received news today that my job might be moving me to SC to work at Charleston's international airport.

So my question is where is a good place to live in SC around the airport? I'm from Utah so I've never been to that part and don't want to move into a crappy part of town haha.

Best place to live depends drastically on what you want.

Like most places, Charleston offers mulit-million dollar mansions to the projects and everything in between.

If I were going to move out there I'd probably start looking around Goose Creek. Primarily because I wouldn't be able to afford anything closer to the ocean.

You want a house? Apartment? Just you? In the City? Country?

North Charleston would be nice if it's just you and you want an apartment.

If money is not a factor then you should pick out a nice place on Rainbow Row.

lol, You and me most likely have the best shot at knowing the most about Charleston.

Maybe one of our other rich members have a summer house there.

Yea no doubt.... Stump goes down there for boat races and I know he is from SC. GaMike might know some too. Then IIRC John is or has family in Columbia.

Anywho, x2 on Goose Creek too. And North Charleston too. Let me know if I can help you out. Oh yea and x2 on the sucks to be leaving wheeling meka to be here....... Don't get me wrong I love SC! But there isn't a whole lot of wheeling around here.

It will be me and the wife, I personally would like to rent a townhouse or something with a garage to work on the jeep, ha.

Don't know how long we'll be living there so defiantly going to rent first. I'm not into big city, or in the middle of no where, more like something in between. Maybe around 700-1000 per mo.

Closest place to Charleston that's worth a crap is Uwharrie, Gulches, Choccolocco Mtn, Morris Mtn and Adventure (AOP). In that order. Uwharrie is about 3.5 hours from Charleston and Choccolocco is 6 hours.

Which means you can come visit me and Glenn.

I'm about 4 hours from Charleston.

Thanks man, looks like I'll be joing the small group of wheelers in SC haha. Goose creek does seem like a nice place. I'll probably head out there in the next weeks to look for a place to live.

All these are smaller towns where most people commute from, all close to I26 and North Charleston where the Airport is located. North Charleston is, if you did not know, not part of Charleston at all. It’s a separate City entirely. Another example of how some of our Coastal towns got names, Myrtle Beach which everyone knows is not part of North Myrtle Beach. Two more separate City’s. Do not pick anything at all on U.S.17 any farther north of I-526 than about 15 miles. During the Beach Season that rides will take more than 1.5 to 2 hours some days. Try to stay North of North Charleston and you should fare well. Look on a map and find Hwy 52 and 78 just north of I26. That’s what the locals call the safe zone. Every insurance premium you will need is a few points lower above that line. If on the other hand you have a big bag of cash and want to spend it go for the in town condos. Just do your homework. I lived in our coastal area (North end) for 17.5 years. It’s great, but I hate hurricanes! LOL
I am an hour from Orangeburg SC in Camden. Orangeburg is about 1-2 from North Charleston depending on traffic. 45 minutes tops in the winter months. Good luck and keep in touch.

There is Gulches like he said an easy day trip for most of us and Uwharrie. Uwharrie is a nice place to go a camp and hang out for a weekend.

But in an unfortunate turn of events, the job offer for me is not going to happen in SC, and now HR says the job is in Hartford, CT. Sooooo yeah. Not exactly happy as I was really begging to warm up to the idea of SC. not to mention the nice weather.

I work for Delta airlines, I just got my license to be an aircraft mechanic. So I've been trying to get promoted to that position but it's been a roller coaster the last month or so.
