what do lockers do exactly?
what do lockers do exactly?
Lockers lock both wheels together to turn at the exact same time. An open differential which is what u have lets both wheels turn at 2 different rates for better corning and turning. this unfortunately is not good at all when off-road because then the wheel with the least amount of traction will get all the power because it is the easiest to turn. A locker will make both the wheels move at the same time so when in a situation where one tire is off the ground the one still on the ground will get power and keep u moving.
Lol I like your quote.. Was that actually someone from that wrote this on the boards ? To funny..kinda like muffler bearings and alternator caps, lol. :lecture::soapbox:
great explanation man. let me ask yall this wouldn't be cheaper to install everything at once "gears, lockers, diff protection" while they are working in the same area?
It can be, depending on if you're taking the Jeep in to have the work done each time. I'd do the gears and lockers at the same time, then you can save up a bit if you need to to get the cash for some stout diff covers. I wouldn't wheel it too much or too agressively until you get the diff covers though. You can mess up a new set of gears pretty quickly by punching a rock through or smashing a stock cover into the ring gear on the trail. IIRC, quality thick diff covers shouldn't run you more than $100-150 each.
As far as bumpers go, I would recommend checkin out www.JCROffroad.com Depending on the bumpers you get you they either come with or you can get 2" receivers installed in them.
The question is what trans do you have? Auto or a 5spd?
I have a 97' with a 5spd. and I'm running 32's with 4.10's and its perfect for me dd and weekend wheeler.
