You folks seem to like walker valley. And it needs some adopt a crews.

Are they looking for crews for the 4wd trails, bike trails or both? I cant speak for all of us, but I think that the north end guys would be more than happy to spend some time up there.

Bike trails do need the occasional help from time to time. But they seem to take care of thier own.

The 4x4 trails are what needs the most help. From maintenance to cleanups. Plus the adoptors are allowed to modify / enhance the trail. Most of the time it pisses everyone off, till they realize it's way more fun.

I'm suprised we haven't heard from many Seattle area guys concerning trails closer to their area, like Evans. But I'm more than willing, and would be happy to help maintain Walker Valley.

I would put time in to help maintain a trail. I would prefer something closer but anything to help the offroad community is better that nothing.

I already seconded this.......... *since no one actually pays attention*

Many of us have talked about this and considered this for some time now

and this seems to be the ongoing idea.... talking not doing.

Karl as I said before, I do think this is a needed action in this chapter and will go to any trail at any time to up keep trials. Its just another reason to leave this damn bar.

yep, I for one have never organized a run, never participated in a run, and never really been much apart of this chapter. Probably why you and I have never met :wierd: . I can't think of 1/2 dozzen others like me either:speepin:

Can you get over your negative critisizm and at least be productive with your comments.

Karl, I think that it has been agreed that we would like to do this. I personally would prefer to take this on at Walker. If this is possible I would love to work with you on "learning" what to do so that I can take on some of the responsibility and maybe we can get someone else over a short period of time to start considering other trails at other areas as well, maybe you could help them as we get to that point.

Thanks again for bringing this up!!

Michael

Well I'll tell you what. If I get an e-mail or PM from the chapter pres, I'll start the process of adopting a small trail at walker valley. All the trails there are in damn good shape, so picking one that needs A lot of work won't be in the cards. Mostly the group will just do small one day maintenance projects.

I'll be at Walker this weekend (20 oct) if any folks want to see what we are getting into.

Yeah...we tried this, but it fell through miserably.

I like seeing the dialog open back up on this. Perhaps the next BOD will support it, not that we didn't. We were always for it, but you can't always count on your 'volunteers'. :spam:

What do you need from me? If people need supplies and such, they can rally for it however necessary. We don't have magical funds that just appear. ;) There's apparent interest, so if they actually want to follow through then let them. I'm not taking part in this because I've been burned so much in the past I really don't care anymore. Everything always looks good on paper, so to speak... :looser:

The only thing I need from the BOD is a signature on the paperwork. It would be a one year contract to maintain a trail.

And the NWC doesn't have to provide ANY money. Just the manpower. And maybe some tools and such. (ie tree falls down in the woods across the trail, we need chainsaws. Etc...)

It isn't hard. I can easily do this. All I will do here is post the days of the "work" parties, we can go do the trail maintenance and then wheel for the rest of the day.

Phil, I understand your reservation. Your not the only one who has been burned a time or two. ;)

Can we count on you for the sig's that we need for the formalities?
I think we all agree that this is something that we want to start sooner rather than later.

I thought it was better than saying, "Screw you guys, I'm goin' home." :yelclap:
If you've felt this way you should have stepped down and let someone else advance the chapter. Just because you got bored doesn't mean the chapter should suffer a period of inactivity.

I'm not trying to start anything, but your excuse is pretty lame. Though, in fairness to you, Phil, I'm not running for BOD for the same reason...and because "I know my limits," as you put it.

The following is directly from our bylaws. Article IV, to be exact.

-Responsible use of public lands through membership in land use focused organizations;

-Exploring, maintaining, preserving and enjoying OHV trails with our fellow club members;

-Promoting the continuing and renewed use of public lands for Highway/Off-Highway Vehicle (HOHV) recreation;

-Participating in, and supporting, activities to further the causes of OHV enthusiasts and users of the outdoors;

-Improving the status of our sport through the development of better public image and association with people who are interested and active in the sport;

I believe "adopting" a trail (or trails) would fulfill the intent of these bylaws. Phil, as president of the NWC, aren't you supposed to be supporting these?

Contract? What happens if the volunteers forfeit their end of the deal and my ass is the only one hanging on the contract? My term is up in two months...so what happens then? This is the ONLY reason for my comment about the next BOD handling this. I'm obviously reluctant to put my name on anything I can't rely on. Know what I mean? Two or three people saying they're going to do something isn't good enough for me to put my name on. There's a shitty track record with volunteering around here, so I'd rather someone else stand up and sign. What do they care if they don't follow through? :dunno:

At least there's ONE level-headed person out there not reading too far into what I'm saying. Let me get some info from Karl and we'll see about a signature. I might be asking for additional support from the others, though. Stay tuned for that.

*edit*

Farking KUDOS to the OR/So WA group for getting the stuff done they said they would. Would be nice to see you guys set up your own Chapter so we can see your people active online again.

Phil,
Please talk with Karl back channel and find out what the formalities/contracts/etc are and if you have any reservation about signing them please find out if there is any reason someone else can't do it (Mark, myself, Karl, ??). I REALLY don't want to see this slide till after elections to get going on this.

You've got additional support right here.
