My "Hero" Blog

Man I hope that not how it goes every time you do the Con!!!

Ha yeah that was a heck of a trip. Hopefully they wind down a bit as far as breakage goes though.

So I ordered some HD off-road no lift shackle relocaters. They should be here today or tomorrow.

Im still trying to figure out what springs to get. I decided on BDS last week and tried ordering them but they're having online issues that wouldn't let it ship them to the distributor that is closest to my house. And they don't have a license to sell direct to the public over the phone so I've been waiting for them to fix the online issue. But now, so much time has passed that if I have them shipped to the distributor, I won't be able to pick them up until next Friday. Which happens to be the same day I am leaving to move back to Sacramento and hit the Con. So BDS won't work unless I ship direct to my house for an extra $50+ or so - putting the out the door price at over $500. That hurts.

So I guess I'll look into IRO springs a bit more before I bite the bullet. I'm hesitant to go with them because I've never been a fan of their products and I've always thought they were just a cheap company like RC. Plus the multiple stories I've heard about people bending their springs makes me think twice. But I guess I'll do some more looking and research on them before I rule them out.

Is there really no local ish spring builder up there? There's a place down here called central coast springs you could try.

i had rubicon express leafs in my green heep for years before i killed them & installed the deavers.
i killed a deavers main leaf on the first trail run.
i wouldn't hesitate to buy the rub ex leafs again.

Wtf thats crazy, We're you in negative arc all day? Thats a very rare occurrence for a deaver pack.

My Rough Country springs lasted for like 4 years. Rubicon Express lasted like half a summer. Maybe RC is the best spring of all??? :gee: I'm surprised you had trouble so soon with the deavers. That's a bummer.

Jeremy, I don't think I want to do a custom spring. I want something off the shelf from a company with a good warranty mostly for availability and ease of replacement if something happens

Turns out it's actually $80 to ship their springs to my door. Geez. I might just wait until after the rubicon next weekend to figure this whole thing out. I'd be pushing it time wise anyways.

I ordered a new AC condenser and accumulator. I'm hoping to swap it all in next week and charge it at the shop I used to work at on my way out of town Friday.

Because I tacos my old crossmember last outing, I'm building a new transmission crossmember that will sit flush with the bottom of my frame rails. It will consist of a 2x4x.25 box tube and some 1/4" plate and I will eventually mount my 3 link off of it. Because I'm shooting for a flat belly, I ordered an NP231 clocking ring so I can rotate the low point of the transfer case up above the frame rails, allowing me to have my skid plate sit flush with the bottom of my unibody stiffeners. It should be here mid week... Cutting it close for this rubicon trip lol.

If you need a piece of the 2x4x1/4 tubing I have a piece that I was going to use for my own crossmember. But I got a TNT Y-link instead. I'll let ya have it for cheap ($20 ???)if you want it. And don't forget to put a vacuum on your a/c system for awhile before charging it to make sure you clean it out.

my driving skillz are questionable. :gee:

Nonsense, I've seen your vids....in my world wot is the only way to wheel as well. Deavers are nice but at the end of the day there's no substitute for coilovers.

Cant wait to see the x member!

Sorry I forgot all about taking a picture. Here are the IRO 3.5" leaf springs with the boomerang shackle. It's a 85 degree angle.

Thanks for the pic man. Not enough of a shackle angle for me though.

Progress is uhhhh. Lacking.

So to make up for it, here's a video of my bad driving skills.
