My "Hero" Blog

When I do ring and pinion stuff I hold the yoke with a big pipe wrench. That's all I have. You can also make a spanner wrench out of flat plate. Drill 4 holes for the 4 mounting holes for the ds . Drill out the center with a hole saw for the socket. Then hold it well , or to use a 4 ft piece of 1/4" flat steel to make it and wedge it against the floor

I'd put the impact on it, don't go nuts just a few love taps, then install it. Put it in gear, put the grans in park, torque wrench & see.

I freaking hate snap rings. That is all.

I still need to torque the yokes. It calls for 140-150ft/lbs of torque... How important is that? I really don't want to figure out a way to hold the yoke while I torque it. I'm thinking of just sticking my impact on there. Thoughts? She's a strong impact.

never underestimate the value of a great pair of snap ring pliers!
I've done 3 SYE's now and just hit them all with the impact. no leaks, no problems with any. but you seem to have constant drivetrain issues.. nah you're just overthinking it .!..:D..!.

nice seeing you on the con dude. hopefully your jeep holds together this time and we'll go wheeling before the season is over

I say too much work. Just get an atlas :p

This is why we're friends.

I hit them with the impact. They're freakin tight but if I get bored I'll throw the wrench on em.

Jake it was good seeing ya out there too. Took me long enough to realize that was you haha. Yeah hopefully this holds up. All I want to do is wheel.

Trans is going up right now

Hahah yeah jake time sure does fly. I just turned 21. I'm getting old now. :P

Slick Rock bound within the hour.

You are a machine Kevin. Good work man.

Welp, I ended up leaving for Slick Rock at almost 11:30 Friday night with a few good friends. Got to camp at 3:30 in the morning and went to bed as the sun was coming up. Wheeled slick rock Saturday and then broke a main leaf spring half way to the top of the Deer Valley Trail Saturday evening. Limped it back to Lake Alpine and left it there for me to fix next weekend. What a freaking adventure this weekend has been lol

Don't think I broke a bellhousing though!

And now with the new SYE kit, I have no vibes whatsoever and it is freaking amazing! So smooth.

Anyways. Here are a few pics!

It broke on a simple ledge about half a mile into deer valley. Very little skinny pedal too. Must have just fatigued and finally let go. Wrapped it up with some gorilla tape and put some c-clamps on it and she held up for the short drive back to Lake Alpine. I'm hoping to head up next weekend to swap in some new leafs if I can get my hands on any.

Man oh man! Glad the bell housing is OK.

Good news is you change the springs and you can do some trail runs in some of the most beautiful country around.

Yup! Can't beat it! Head up Friday after work, fix it Saturday morning, and wheel, fish, swim, and dirt bike for the rest of weekend? I'm down.

But she does need some work still. When I get it home it's going straight up on jack stands so I can go through the whole front end and make it super solid before sierrafest. She's makin some noises up front, that's for sure.
