My "Hero" Blog

Finally, on the way home on Sunday, my Dad and I stopped at Boards Crossing to go fishing. After hearing Jon and many others talking about this area, we decided to check it out and see what all the hype was about.

Both my Dad and I were very impressed. The trail was more washed out than I imagined (which was a good thing) and the woods and river were absolutely beautiful.

We worked our way out to a pretty cool spot right along the river about 20-25 minutes in. We stopped here for a few hours so we could throw out our lines and relax a bit at the river. It was such an awesome place, and we will definitely be coming back to camp out there!

Heres a shot of our spot right up alongside the river.

Cant wait to get back up there again!

Also, PLEASE (if anybody reads this) give some feedback on the pictures in the last few posts. I have been fooling around with Lightroom and have become obsessed with the HDR (pretty heavily edited) look. Sometimes I think its too much, but sometimes i think it looks great. What do you guys think?

i like the pics!
did you see a gate on deer valley a mile in?

Love the pics. That is the same campsite that I always camp at when I go to Boards Crossing. Camp at the lower site, shoot at the upper site.

Did you guys catch any fish? Was thinking about heading up this weekend to do a little fishing

Thanks guys, Ill try to keep editing and shooting as usual then!

Chris, I did finally fix my death wobble. I aligned my jeep and ended up with .01* toe in. Full blown death wobble is gone, but I still get a shimmy every now and then.

I just ran the Rubicon for the first time last weekend and had the time of my life. Best camping and wheeling trip I have ever been on. I wasn't able to get any pics of myself, but I snatched a few of Mike and some other random stuff we encountered on the trail. Ill sort through them and hopefully get them posted some time tomorrow.

your jeep did very well man, it was very cool wheeling with ya kevin...

Thanks guys, It was killer wheeling out there with you all as well!

As I said earlier, I didn't get any pictures of myself but got some of Mike. I posted them in the Rubicon trip thread.

Now to the fun fab stuff...

The other day, I got a big pile of fun delivered to the fab lab.

Mmmmmmmmm, 20 feet of 2x6x3/16 and 138 feet (6 sticks) of 1.5" .120 wall DOM.

Then, after a few hours of chopping and grinding, this appeared.

Then I measured the rockers on my Jeep and realized that it would make for a perfect fit... So out came the sawzall! :D

Ahhh, yes. Perfect fit!

Hopefully I get some time to work on it again tomorrow after work. Both sides should be done by Sunday evening as that is when I am returning my "rental" car (borrowing my aunts car). But until tomorrow comes, I will be busy celebrating America's 236th birthday.

Hahaha thanks guys.

After welding up a good bit of my passenger side slider last night, I decided to call it a night and go to bed. I woke up at 3:00AM with my eyes burning and watering like crazy. Turns out that the whites of my eyeballs got sunburned from the welding, also known as flash burn.

So that (along with a funeral) slowed todays progress quite a bit, but I still managed to get the passenger side completely welded up to the Jeep, and got the driver side rail all cut and welded together.

I also lost a close friend today.... After over 3 years of friendship, my Harbor Freight angle grinder went up in flames. That $10 piece of plastic sure put up a good fight!

I should have both sides all burned in and good to go by tomorrow. And with any luck, I might be measuring for the bends in the main halo on the cage by sunday.

looks like you turned your turbo button on....

Thanks, the plan is to weld up supports going from the rockers to the "frame", and tie the pillars of the cage into those supports. The A pillar of the cage will be external (traveling in front of the windshield and through the fender) and will mount at the very front of the new rockers.

Heres some shots I took while applying the final coats of primer before the black paint. I must have gotten too excited because I forgot to take pictures of the final product.

How much do you guys think each rocker weighs?

Oh, and I started bending on the cage tonight. Just a little teaser pic... Anybody know what this is?

Wont be able to get back to it till next week though. Fixing some stuff on the heep tomorrow (control arm bracket, shackles, leaf springs), installing a water pump after work wednesday, packing after work thursday, and then heading up friday to run the con for my birthday.

This is a mod that I plan on doing this winter, do you have to trim your doors at all with the placement of your new rockers? I have seen some that do and some that don't....

It's an advertisement for the new "hp ecoHIGH tech" tube bender? :D
