My "Hero" Blog

Huge thanks to Marcel and Marcus for the steering box and the window and getting them to me in a timely fashion. I appreciate it.

And a big shoutout to The Chop Shop in Dixon for hooking me up with 2 used 33" toyos for free to get me back on the road.

I got the new clutch master cylinder, new steering pump, steering box, window, and new tires installed Friday night and headed up 50 Saturday morning to hit some fresh powder. I gathered up a small group of friends and headed up ice house road with a detour up wentworth to Uncle Toms Cabin.

On the way out, I pulled off the snow onto pavement and my brake pedal went straight to the floor. Turns out I broke my passenger side lower shock mount and in the process the shock made contact with the SS brake line and somehow loosened the banjo bolt. Tightened it up and we were on our way. Im just very thankful it happened there, and not on our way down the icy hill!

All in all it was a great time. Perfect snow and a great mix of weather. Polished it off with a solid burger at Burger Barn in Pollock Pines and made it home in one piece. Looking forward to the next trip.

looks damn fun mang

Does anybody know where I can find the bracket assembly thingamajig that holds the fuel pump and sending unit in place? The tube on mine pulled out of the "cap" and is no longer a press fit so it won't stay in place. Here's a few pictures to help with the visuals.

I was told elsewhere to press it back in and braze it together. I don't have experience doing that and don't know anybody that does. If its cheap enough I will just buy one. That way there is no way for me to mess it up. Only problem is I can't find that part. Any suggestions from you guys?

Also while I'm in there I think I'm going to replace the fuel pump with a Bosch unit as suggested by Gordo quite a few pages back as preventative maintenance.

you can buy the entire assembly online as one.

Oh maybe im wrong. I was just looking for my 98 and my 01 wj.

I just checked, nothing. shit, junkyard it dude.

Grabbed one from pick n pull today. $30 with sending unit and no fuel pump. Works out well because my sending unit didn't work in the first place.

Also started building a new bumper a few weeks ago. It got put on the back burner but hopefully I'll finish it up this weekend.

no winch provisions ? bumper looks good.
glad to see you figured out the fuel pump issue.

how is school dude?

Thanks Jon. Nope, no winch provisions on this one. Maybe eventually. This one will have some pretty solid tow points though.

And school is going great! I graduate in late May. I'm currently working on my senior project which involves minimizing the lateral and torsional deflection in the rear linkage of a full suspension mountain bike. We're building the new rear end out of carbon fiber which should be pretty sweet. I'm also doing an independent study on three and four link suspension geometry as well as cantilever shock/suspension setups (which I plan on applying to my jeep). It's pretty cool getting school credit for working on and designing things for my hobby.

I am really interested in seeing your senior project, how wide of a hub are you using. What is your main suspension pivot design. I have mainly riden horst link design on xc, enduro, and downhill bikes.. Good luck with your project!

Sounds like some bad ass school projects. I'll be interested to see what design you come up with for the canteliver. This is the kit I bought for my expo but I have to make quite a few changes to make it work for me.

How I got it/\

Were using a 12x142mm thru axle hub with a split pivot design. Were almost done with all the manual machining, then off to the CNC machine to have some molds cut out so we can begin the carbon fiber layup.

That looks like a badass setup! Get that on the sploder asap! I'm curious to see what I come up with for the XJ as well lol. There's not a whole bunch of room in the back unless I bring the fuel tank into the cargo area. Id like it to be close to bolt on as well so I can sell them as DIY kits down the road. I have a list of things to do before I can begin on the design of the whole cantilever deal though.

I went out to Prairie City today and finally got to test the new 3-link out. It seems to perform great, and thus far I am very satisfied. My biggest issue right now is my tires rub the rear portion of the fender and the front of the slider at full stuff when turned. The fenders are self clearanced now, but I will be cutting those ASAP.

Here's the two pics I got on my camera. More from my phone will be posted later.

Im so stoked on this thing!

It looks really damn good! I'm glad you stepped up the tire size I think it looks much more proportionate.
Yeah either move the tank or build it in front of the axle like mine was designed for.

loving it kevin. great work man
