My first ever major project on my 99 XJ...

I wish you weren't working this weekend too!

I don't have a floor jack at all, but the guy that did my lift does, he's got several and I'm sure he wouldn't mind if we borrowed one.

I hope we can make it work tho! I feel like this thing is getting blown out of proportion...:(

If you can get access to one of his jacks we can check it tonight. I'll be out of class at 6:15. Call me when you have your break at 3:40 or if you get a free moment sooner.

Alright cool thanx so much!

If I was gonna go out and buy a hyraulic jack and jack stands, what kind/rating should I get? 1/2 ton? or bigger? I saw a few sets on sale at Advance Auto Parts last week but I don't want to buy the wrong kind/rating...

Funny...they did the same thing with me when I went there with my first XJ (when I was unaware of the a$$hats that 4WP hires). I wanted 31's....31's and they told me it wouldn't work. I was buying the tires before I had my lift so what they did was they rolled out a 31" Pro Comp M/T set it next to my tires on the Jeep and said "look...it won't fit".... was about my only response. And I had 2 of their "techs" tell me this. I know I don't have to explain to you guys why you can't roll a tire up next to a vehicle and judge whether it would fit or not. Anyways, I went back inside, spoke with a manager and told him he needs to send his tech's to a a geometry class and that they should also set an IQ requirement greater than 7 to work there. Needless to say he defended them so I left and bought tires elsewhere. Gawd...what a bunch of r-tards.

Same exact thing happened to me with my Ranger. I bought from somewhere else and rode back by 4wp and SHOWED them that they DO fit! Dumbasses.

Haha...I did the same thing.

4WP :looser:

I had run into mad death wobble after installing my lift, and was preparing to go through and replace every joint and end on the entire front end. I had $320 worth of various ball joints and ends sitting on the shop floor...and that was to do everything. I ended up taking them back because a steering stabilizer and a good alignment solved my problem.

Are you getting any death wobble at the moment Katie?

See I knew I overpaid!

Nope, I'm not getting any wobble at all, the only things I've noticed so far is a grinding noise when I press the brake pedal, and a slight back-and-front rocking motion when I come to a complete stop. But again, that could be due to the 4 30" tires I've got in the back, I don't know.

I also heard something pop in the back when I went over a speed bump yesterday, but it seems to be driving fine. Just thought I'd mention it.

According to the sign out front, 4WP is now hiring 'experienced techs' haha yeah right! The dumbasses that work there aren't even experienced! I had 2 of them look at my rear axle to determine which kind it was, and both of them, including Kyle, their supposed 'Jeep expert' told me it was a Dana 35, when in fact it's a Chrysler 8.25. When I told him about it today he goes, "Sorry about that. It's hard to tell when the Jeep's not lifted" What a bunch of BS and a lame-ass excuse!

Sorry I'm a bit upset about all this...not to mention I've been spending so much time on here and worrying about my XJ, that I've neglected a few very important assignments for 2 of my classes that are due today...:(

Also I don't have my steering stablizer installed yet. The guy doing my lift wanted to put it on after the alignment for some reason.

If you're not getting any wobble then, chances are everything is perfectly fine.....and if thats the case, consider yourself very lucky. Some people can go 6" with no problems, and others (like me) go 3" and it all goes to hell.

As for the steering damper, I don't think it makes much of a difference if you put it on before or after the alignment. I did mine before (so that I could actually drive it at speeds greater than 40mph) and have had no issues.

I drive mine at 65 all day long with no stabilizer. :) Stabilizer is a comfort thing... Means nada.

How much did you pay for the joints? I work at a parts store and could probably get them mucho cheaper... I'll let ya konw tonight.

Let's just leave it at that, so that this thread doesn't end up like every other thread that mentions the words death wobble. :)

Hey there, I read thru this thread and feel your pain as far as continually dealing with your Jeep project (apparently I am learning it never stops:roll:, so fun though) . I too have recently finished lifting my XJ. I have a 97 w/3" OME lift kit. I am saving up for my new tires, and going with 31's. I did alot of research, and learned a ton of stuff thru this awesome web site. I mean, the people on here are so generous and friendly, and I am not even a member yet. It is so cool what the love of the XJ will make us do. You probably need to do a SYE (slip yoke eliminator) for your driveshaft. The grind noise you describe sounds like what I had before my SYE install. After I put the SYE on with new driveshaft, my Jeep drives smoother and quieter than it has in along time. I also had to add a couple of shims under my leaf springs to adjust the pinion angle. I hope this helps, and not confuses. I also hope that your noise when you stop is something else, but the SYE helped me. Check it out. Good luck.

Yeah, I think a horde of monster XJs needs to descend on 4wp with a boatload of outlandish requests. I know my exhaust bearings just about need replacing.

If I were closer I'd offer to replace the balljoints this weekend but it shouldn't be that big a deal. Some shops have quoted me ridiculous amounts for balljoints (idols was something like $500 for 2 parts and labor), but most recently my buddy took his own parts to a decent garage and got upper and lower done for $104 out the door (4wd f150). Someone who isn't trying to rake you over the coals should quote you a decent price.

Sucks when shops try to take advantage of people, especially because they're supposed to be the trained ones. Oh well, I'd say this will generate a considerable response among the (not a chapter for serious) carolinas XJ enthusiasts. Strength, or at least annoyance in numbers!!!

If you mean you're going up to 4WP to f*ck with them, then THANK YOU!!!!!!!! I'm too embarrassed to go myself but I am pretty fed up about it...I was just thinking that a bunch of us should go and let them know that the way they've acted to me is not okay...
