My first 4x4

So after driving around for about a week my rear leafs are starting to show some stress from the front being higher and it appears my leafs might be starting to wrap. So I'm scraping the block idea and going s10 bastard pack with s10 rear shocks. I have two s10 leaf options. 98 s10 2wd pickup or 96 s10 blazer 4wd. I don't know which ones to go with.

So I ending up picking up 2004 blazer leafs with blazer bilstiens for 80 total at my local truck dismantlers. Today I got the blazer main eyes cut off and should be doing the install in the next couple of days. My plan is to run cherokee main then blazer main followed by the next two blazer leafs and leaving out the flat overload leaf. I know I need to drill out the xj main center pin hole to 3/8" and install a new centering pin. Hopefully this install goes smoothly.

Finished installing the blazer leafs under my main and blazer bilstiens. Had to adjust my shackle the the shorter hole to be about level.

That's with front swaybat still connected. Kind of tweaked one of the sway bar links bushings by doing that.... Lol. Should have pulled the quick disconnects my buddy Chris hooked me up with.

Ok so I've done a few more things to my rig. I decided to remove the Uhaul tow hitch setup I've been solely using as a skid to stop me from hitting my tank. Now with my lift taken care of for now( eventually going to swap to full length coils to replace coil and spacer and long arms) and me realizing I have a way better approach angle then departure angle I've decided to gain some departure angle.

Then I decided to do my cut and fold with a twist. Instead of the standard cut and fold all 4 sides onto each other I got the idea to cut and fold in 1.5" tabs to then weld a plate to. Just need to seam seal it and paint before slick rock.

I think it is coming along very nicely and the fold and tuck is a good idea.

I don't go at stuff that I can't get thru. If I feel it's gunna get to the stuck point I back out . I will soon be adding 2x6 mini boatsides and using 2x6 to also make a front and rear bumper both equipped with d-rings.

legitimate tow points are a must have. You need to figure out a safe rear tow point. The stock hitch is a fantastic tow point. And of course if you ever have to strap someone else as well. If you are planning on building a rear bumper with solid tow points then you'll be fine.

Yes the rear bumper will be mounted inside the frame and bolted with two thru bolts per side and front bumper will be getting atleast one extra bolt hole on top of the 3 it already uses per side

if it helps your ideas my front bumper uses 9 holes per side with multiple through frame bolts. the rear ties into the nut strips and has wrap arounds that tie the quarter panels sliders into the cage. tow points are not something to skimp on.

You also have to keep in mind my jeep isn't a weekend toy. It's my daily driver also. So I have to keep restrictions on what I allow myself to do to be able to keep driving it every day.

Haha you just haven't wheeled with Gordo. Slow and easy are two words he doesn't know with his jeep.

Your rig is coming along really nice. A rear tow point is really important regardless. Maybe not to pull you out but for whoever you're wheeling with .
Xjensen has a rear diy bumper that's for a good price.

more reasons to have legit rear tow points.

I used to say that until i chose the wrong mudhole and sank up to my doors.. glad i had my hitch.. should leave it on until you are ready to atleast mount your bumpers.

You cant predict when you are going to get stuck. It just happens.

Oh I avoid mud..... So not worried about that. Bumpers should be coming verry soon. I will most likely be running one more trail before doing the bumpers. Going to run niagra rim on Friday.
