So I've done a lot of these forum intros but haven't had to do one in a few years. Names tommy. I have been into building cars since I was 16. That is also when I fell in love with the cherokee. My mom had a 96 4 door 2wd 2.5 manual and I knew one day I would have my own cherokee but it would have to be 4wd as I got my moms jeep buried to the body too many times. So about a month ago I picked up a 92 2 door 2.5 manual 4x4. Only mods to it so far is a 2" shackle and 2" coil spacer. Also some nice wheels with 31x10.5s. I'm currently still working out some bugs so I can take it and smog it to finish the registration process. Once that's all done I'm going to upgrade the steering box with Durango box and stiffeners for the box, chassis stiffeners, diff covers, shocks for 2" lift, remove rear sway bar and get front quick disconnects. Then hopefully take it out and get some behind the wheel time....
Here's some pictures

And this is the type of driving I've been used to. Was my car 3 years ago......

welcome!

Badass little Miata. I've always wanted a boosted one to go throw around . Nice 2 door too.

Welcome

So I am at the point of feeling like I'm chasing a false issue. 2 weeks ago the headgasket blew when my gf was driving the jeep. So I pulled the head had it cleaned up and checked for cracks to make sure and then reinstalled along with replacing a broken temp sender( idiot light sensor), water pump, thermostat, radiator and all hoses. So I am now dealing with an issue of the idiot light turning on dim after the jeep has been idling for a while. Once to the point of the thermostat opening the idiot light is fully lit up. I am going to be replacing the sensor again tomorrow morning to verify if autozone gave me a bad sender or if it's just doing this. Before the headgasket blew the idiot light never came on. I only need to swap fuel filter and replace the blown out drivers motor mount to be ready to smog the jeep but need to fix this issue. Anyone near sonora with a temp gun to verify if the idiot light is lieing to me or not?

bad sending unit. maybe it was the non-dummy light version by accident.

That's what I'm thinking. This particular manager doesn't ask many questions when getting parts. When I ordered it I assumed the senders were the same so I didn't make sure to explain one for the light not the gauge. I also tried to order one from Morris 4x4 and they sent me the actual coolant temp sensor which I already replaced. Anyone looking to replace there coolant temp sensor I have a brand new one. So the motor mount was verry easy to change and so was the fuel filter minus being covered in gas. Haha.

I'd throw a mechanical temp gauge on it to be safe. Or since you already have the gauge sensor, run to picknpull and pick up a full gauge cluster. The swap isn't hard at all and there should be a few threads out there on it.

I believe it's as simple as just changing out the cluster for a true gauged unit and adding an oil pressure sending unit( mine has been removed for a mechanical oil pressure gauge in center console. And the coolant sensor I currently have. I'd like my mileage to be accurate and don't want to dial up/down another cluster to match. I have a spot for a mechanical temp gauge in my center console I just then need a place to thread in it's sensor.

A few more old cars I've owned. As you can see I'm more used to being really close the road and thinking a speed bump is a mountain......

Ok so a little update. Went and picked up my replacement sender from autozone and it won't thread in. Wtf? After going and comparing to the sender orielly auto carries it seems the sender for light is a thicker probe then the one for gauge... So I'm now going to let it cool down and drain coolant so I can see in the hole and see what's stopping the new sender from going in. If it's just extra casting should I be safe drilling out the hole a bit larger?

Ok so I guess it wasn't a bad part it was me afraid to start screwing in the sensor before the threads made contact. So I put it in as far as it would go then started to try to tighten it and it slowly made it's way down to the threads and only a couple threads grabbed before it got snug. Now to fix my saggy headliner... And figure out what that loud clunk is when I turn.

It's recovered just letting the headliner completely dry before I reinstall it. So far it's been pretty easy. The only part that had me stuck was how to bring down the dome light. I broke those washer things. Where can I get more?

Hmmm I know what you're talking about, but I can't imagine where you would get em. You might just go to a pull it yard and pocket them. How'd you break em? You should just be able to pull them off the shafts?

Took the jeep out down a dirt road today with some nice sized ruts and found out even after the fender trimming I did I still need to do some longer bump stops in the rear becus I'm still rubbing my 31s

So I had a few issues recently( blinkers stopped working, then speedo and gas gauge stopped working). Both have been fixed by cleaning up some corrosion built up on the fuse contacts. Good ole 2.5 passed ca smog on her first go... Finally completed registration. Time to do some needed work( upgrades/maintenance) to my gf's subaru impreza gc and park the jeep for the time being. Then when I'm done with that stuff I get to get back to the jeep. First thing is going to be sliders and skids then go wheel it while I slowly gather everything for the better lift height. Somewhere around 4.5-5 inches in the front and around 4.5 in the rear. Then front and rear bumpers with winch up front. Then 4.88 with selectable front locker and limited slip in the rear.

Went out today to test out the jeep and to try to find some local off-road areas. Stopped in at Lyons reservoir and then headed a little further up the 108 and found forest road 3n39 and headed in for some fun. Ended up coming out just south of long barn on 3n69. Had a blast. Didn't get stuck anywhere. Anyone up for some more forest road exploration ? Now that I realize all these places are only like 30 mins away I'm up for going again as soon as I find atleast one other rig to go with.....

ya we camp and wheel around out by the clayey way down 3no1 at least a few times a year. we definetly want to explore more of that entire area.

ya, we are planning a "pack light and explore" weekend trip out in that area in the next month or two.

but before that, the plan is to do another weekend up hwy 4 and do DV, SR and Boards crossing Fri-sun and probably explore more than just that.
